iPad 2 News: Shipping Times for iPad 2 Drop to 2-3 Weeks

There are signs that Apple is catching up with the demand for the iPad 2. At the Apple online store, all models of the iPad 2 are now scheduled to ship with two to three weeks. That’s quite an improvement over earlier estimates of 4-5 weeks when the iPad 2 first came out and 3-4 weeks since March 24. Also experiencing 2-3 week waiting times are the 25 countries included in the international rollout of March 25. This news would seem to soothe worries that availability of the iPad 2 could be affected by the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami, but it may be too soon to tell the full impact of the disaster on manufacturing. Hopefully, if things are easing up at the Apple online store, it means that more inventory will be hitting the retail outlets this week, making it easier for customers to get the model iPad 2 they want without having to wait for hours, then come back several times. Despite what happened last year with the first version of the iPad, Apple seemed to be caught off-guard again by the demand for the iPad 2. The first iPad took 60 days to sell a million units, but analysts estimate that the iPad 2 has already sold somewhere between five and nine million in just three weeks.  

  The first TV commercial for the iPad 2 has just begun airing, which indicates that Apple is aiming for the mainstream audience now that most of the early-adaptors have likely already bought or ordered theirs. Last year, it took Apple until August to catch up on the demand for the iPad. Let’s hope they can do it sooner this time around.
