iPad 2 News: Shipping Estimates for iPad 2 Drop to 1-2 Weeks

The great iPad 2 drought of 2011 may be coming to an end soon. Today Apple dropped the estimated wait time for shipping from the online store to 1-2 weeks. This is a major improvement over the 4-5 weeks in the days after the iPad 2 was released on March 11. The 1-2 week estimate is in effect for Apple's online stores in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. This is very good news for those frustrated buyers who’ve been trying to purchase an iPad at one of the various Apple retailers, but have repeatedly walked away empty-handed. As more iPad 2s become available, customers will have a better chance of being able to actually walk into a store and buy one rather than camping out for hours outside the Apple Store, only to see scalpers walk off with that day’s entire shipment of the tablet. Having to wait only a week or two for your iPad 2 should encourage more buyers to order online instead of having to try to score one of the so far very limited supply in stores.

If you’re still determined to find a certain color and model without running all over town, there’s a new app that could save you time and gas. FindOne aggregates iPad 2 stock information from Walmart and Target stores, letting users zero in on the exact model and color they’re looking for. The app also gives store location, phone numbers and hours of operation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for Apple Stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack or Toys ‘R’ Us. FindOne can be downloaded free at the App Store. While you may not be able to just waltz into the nearest Apple retailer and pick up an iPad 2, the task is getting easier.
