iPad 2 News: Is the iPad 2 Shortage Easing?

This may not be much comfort to hopeful iPad 2 buyers outside Southern California, but there are a couple of stores that are seeing the stock shortage of the last week become less drastic. For the last few days, lines have been forming outside Apple Stores before sunrise. Maybe those in line will get an iPad 2, maybe they won’t, but on Tuesday morning, one store offered a glimmer of hope for those who have not yet succeeded in taking home the new iPad. Two stores in the Los Angeles area were actually able to service the early comers and still have stock left to sell during regular business hours. The Apple store in The Grove Mall and another in the Simi Valley area north of Los Angeles actually had iPad 2s left after the morning crowds had dissipated. This is pretty interesting, especially in the case of The Grove. If there’s one store in L.A. county that’s going to be a natural magnet for the Apple crowd, it’s The Grove. Located in one of the area’s trendiest malls, the Apple Store at The Grove sits in an affluent neighborhood surrounded by even more affluent neighborhoods. If you live in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, the Hollywood Hills or Hancock Park, The Grove is where you’re likely to go to buy anything Apple.

So did Apple recognize an area of heavy demand and send it a double dose of inventory, or is the dreaded iPad drought of 2011 finally over? I’m sure it’s not over yet and some potential iPad buyers can still expect long lines, but maybe the worst is has passed. If Apple can adequately service some stores, hopefully they’ll soon it will be able to take care of all of them.
