iPad 2 News: iPad 2 Coming to Toys `R` Us?

Parents who buy iPads for themselves quickly discover that their kids love the touchpad device. The iPad is so intuitive and easy to use that even toddlers have no trouble learning how to use it. So why not sell the iPad where you buy other stuff for your kids—like Toys “R” Us? According to ModMyi.com, the toy chain will begin selling the Apple tablet next month. An employee of Toys “R” Us leaked the information to ModMyi, along with photos from an employee training guide. The guide states that the store will also carry the iPad Camera Connection Kit, the Smart Cover and a VGA connector. Here’s what ModMyi had to say: “We received a tip this morning from a Toys “R” Us employee that the venerable children’s toy store will begin selling the iPad 2 next month. Although there have been rumors in the past about Toys “R” Us possibly carrying the iPad at some point in the future, this is the first we’ve heard from an actual employee that an iPad launch at the toy store is imminent.” While I’m sure there are people reading this and saying, “What?” it makes sense on several levels.

First, it’s a tempting impulse buy for new parents—especially with the camera and VGA connectors so the proud mom and pop can start recording everything baby does. And while a $500+ electronic device may seem like a frivolous purchase for a child, kids learn things like spelling and math rapidly on the iPad, making it a very educational “toy” as long as the parents monitor what their child is doing with it. This is a smart move on the part of Apple, because if the brand can hook the kids early, it won’t be long until they’re ready for an iPhone, and an iPod Touch, and whatever else Apple is making in a few years.
