iPad 2 News: iPad 2 Case Appears at CES

Images of cases for the iPad 2 have been appearing—and disappearing—from the Internet for several weeks now, but now one has been seen live and up close. And this one had an iPad 2 mockup inside. On Tuesday evening at CES in Las Vegas, a reporter from Engadget was checking out an interesting case from Dexim, one with a bluetooth keyboard that magnetically adheres to the front cover so it can easily be removed. When the reporter asked to slip his iPad into the case, he was told that it wouldn’t fit, because the sleeve was designed for the next version—the iPad 2. Inside the case was a mockup of the next-gen iPad that was slimmer than the original and had taped edges similar to the iPod Touch. The mockup also had a home button near the bottom edge, plus a large square for the speaker.

All this pretty much confirms what we’ve been hearing about the iPad 2 already. Given that some unnamed source has been putting pressure on makers of iPad cases and web sites to remove images that give clues as to the features of the iPad 2, I wonder if Dexim and other vendors showing accessories for the next Apple tab will be forced to keep their wares under wraps.
