iPad 2 News: Apple Releases iOS 4.3.2

As expected, Apple released iOS 4.3.2 today, and early reports say it seems to be fixing some of the problems users were having with iOS 4.3.1. The biggest glitch this tweak is supposed to correct is the 3G connectivity problem striking Verizon iPad 2 models. It’s also aimed at stopping the freezing that has plagued the FaceTime app. Also part of the new update are security features patching the vulnerability that allowed the untethered jailbreak of iPhones running iOS 4.3.1. Devices eligible for the iOS 4.3.2 update include the iPad 2, the original iPad, the GSM  iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, the fourth-generation iPod Touch and the fifth-generation iPod Touch. Not included is the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4, but Apple also released iOS 4.2.7 today for users of those devices. So will this update fix all the bugs? Hopefully, because Apple doesn’t need another PR nightmare associated with a brand-new product. The dropped connections occurring in the Verizon version of the iPad 2 started happening within weeks of the device’s release and could have impacted sales if the new version of Apple’s tablet wasn’t so outrageously in demand already. Buyers expect Apple products to work flawlessly, right out of the box, and usually they get what they pay for.

Given the ingenuity of hackers, I question whether any security update will stop them from jailbreaking Apple devices, and someone’s probably figured out how to get around this one already. So how soon will the next update come out? That probably depends on how well this one works. If new bugs pop up in iOS 4.3.2, there could be an iOS 4.3.2 in a few weeks. If not, the next big upgrade is expected to be iOS 5, coming out later this year.
