iPad 2 News: Apple Pulling iPad 2s from Best Buy Stores?

Best Buy seems to have made a major customer relations boo-boo, and it just might cost the chain its connection to Apple. According to CrunchGear, Best Buy was caught withholding iPad 2s from customers, claiming they had run out when actually they had just reached their daily quota. Expecting potential buyers to come back the next day? This did not go over well with Apple, which is already under fire for its failure to produce enough stock to fill the demand for the iPad 2. Here’s the take on this from CrunchGear: “A reader who works at Best Buy just told us that there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding between the electronics retailer and Apple. Apparently, Best Buy was holding off on selling the iPad 2s it had in stock, telling customers there weren’t any when in fact they had just reached their quota of sales for the day.” Apple responded by declining to sell any more iPad 2s to Best Buy, at least until the issue can be resolved. Major Apple honcho Tim Cook is on the case, trying to spread oil on the troubled waters of the company’s relations with the retail giant. This is obviously an ill-advised move on the part of Best Buy, especially after having to pull an ad this week for a competing tablet that trashed the iPad 2.

It’s very well known how carefully Apple plans its retail roll-outs, which are timed as carefully as a military campaign. Best Buy is going to have to do some serious groveling to make this gaffe go away. Apple sells a lot of product through Best Buy, so it’s not likely to cut the chain off entirely, but this issue may take time to resolve.
