Apple Ramps Up Production on iPad 2

The iPad is undisputedly the hottest tech item of the year, and anticipation is building for the second-generation model of the groundbreaking tablet, already in production. Apple has great confidence in the upcoming iPad 2, so much that the tech giant is preparing to meet a demand for six million units per month. According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple has added two more makers of touch panels, Chimei Innolux and Cando, to its list of touch panel suppliers for the iPad 2. Wintek, Sintek Photronics and TPK Touch Solutions are already manufacturing the touch screens for the next iPad. The original iPad is currently moving four million units per month, but Apple is planning to ship six million units per month after the launch of iPad 2, a major increase. Since recent surveys suggest corporate use of tablets is expected to double in 2011, and most of the businesses surveyed indicated a preference for the iPad, Apple is anticipating major sales in that area next year.

Even Apple was not prepared for the overwhelming response that greeted the introduction of the iPad in April. One million units were sold in the first 28 days after the iPad hit the market, and Apple was overwhelmed by the demand. It took the company several months to increase production to the point that their supply met customer demand. This time around, Apple will be ready for the millions of users who can’t wait to get their hands on a brand new iPad 2.
