John Carmack - Image 1It's a known fact that id Software is one of the best FPS developers currently in the market today. It seems that they know their strengths quite well and will be sticking with their guns.

id Software president John Carmack (pictured at right) has revealed that they have been approached by several publishers to develop an MMO version of the Quake series, proposals that have been turned down despite offers of "good money".

He spoke about this decision saying that "id has no interest in MMO development." He added that while he is familiar with the technology behind it, he is also fully aware of the challenges and risks an undertaking such as this would entail.

On that note, the company is also actively pursuing their latest project, a Quake III Arena port that will run off browser. A task, which he noted, was more difficult than they had initially expected:

We did not have the experience in website development, database management, and all of that web world type stuff. And honestly, we underestimated the challenge involved in that.
