iPhone Apple - Image 1Some iPhone owners have experienced something amiss with their beloved Apple handsets since yesterday: an EDGE outage. Apparently, one troubled user contacted mobile carrier AT&T about the issue, and was told that the problems stemmed from their servers. In short, there was nothing wrong with the iPhone units themselves.

Unlike the usual network glitch that only affects the small area, the recent AT&T outage disrupted EDGE connectivity over most of the Midwest regions. AT&T also told BBuehner, the iPhone user who posted the info in the official Apple forums, that the issue will be fixed on February 5th at the latest. Several affected people already had their iPhones up and running recently, however.

So what actually happens when EDGE is cut off? It doesn't necessarily mean that the phone will be cut off completely from the network. It'll just cause a slight slowdown in data transfers, since the phone will just automatically switch to good ole' GPRS connection. It may be a slight problem, or perceptively not as bad as what Xbox Live users have experienced, but it may be enough to drive EDGE addicts nuts.
