Electro Source has recalled the popular powerbrick after 143 reports of overheating. Any one with a PL-6018 Power Brick external battery pack for their PSP need to go HERE right away.

Q. Why are you recalling the Power Brick?
A. In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, we are taking this action because the Power Brick can overheat, creating a potential risk of property damage or injury.

Q. How long will it be before I get my replacement product?
A. We estimate that from the time we receive your Power Brick, it will take up to two weeks for you to receive the replacement product. We will not send any replacement product until we receive your old Power Brick, so it is important to send that back right away once you register and receive your free postage pre-paid mailer.

FAQ can be found HERE.

Customers are asked to dial (800) 263-1156 or visit the following website for more information on the recall.

I bought this...it had an immediate short! It was extremely hot. I immediately returned it back to my Gamestop for a full refund.

Also, im extremely surprised we get a 1-800 number, as there was no toll free number previously.

The Top 10 Reasons Why the PSP SUCKS (Revised)!!!

10: Too many accessories. Do companies honestly think that attaching every sort of gizmo ever released on to your PSP is cool? What is this? They should make a television show out of it. "Tejano my PSP" where a bunch of southside mexicans get ahold of it and turn it into something hideous. Then the PSP would actually be worth someone's time.
9. Overpriced Memory Sticks: $199 for a 2GB stick! Yea Right!!! I could buy a 40GB iPod for that price!
8. No Flash for Web Browsing. I feel like I'm stuck in 1992, browsing the web with Compuserve!!!! teeheee
7. Mandatory Updates: You'd think that after paying out the ying yang for a system such as this, they'd actually let you have "some" freedoms.
6. Homebrew: Ok so using an NES emulator might be cool, but what's with all the other stuff? Calculators? Paint Programs? OSS Shells? TV Remotes???? It couldn't be any more obvious that the PSP lacks a lot of features, hence all the homebrew being developed. I guess Sony should have learned and incorporated garbage like that into the PSP.
5. No Built in Hard Drive: Ok the iPod can have one and its a quarter of the size... What's fishy about this?
4. Horrible Graphics. With over a Gigabyte of space on UMD's, advanced ram and processors, the PSP should at least be on level with Playstation 2, instead of looking like Game Boy Advance or PS1.
3. The Price Tags. Once you spend $250 on the PSP, $200 on memory sticks, $300 on UMD's, and maybe $100 on accessories, your broke as a joke and living under the freeway. Why not just buy a friggin computer for the sake of my hairy testicles. This is an outrage! The PSP should perform like the PS2 on Steroids for that kind of pricing. End of Story.
2. Battery Level.
1. PSP 2 IS COMING SOON. SOONER THAN YOU THINK...

 » Me

I concur... pull your head out of your ass and see the light Sony. The only way PSP has become worth it's price is through homebrew and pirated games. Other than that its a rip off.

4. horrible graphics? i don't think so. have you ever played GTA? seen a cutscene in SOCOM? you're obviously a DS fanboy. these titles are not even CLOSE to what the PSP can actually do. it's underclocked at 222 for every UMD game, yet still has graphics on par with the ps2's. just as black is coming out as an amazing final launch title for ps2, near the end of the psp's lifecycle, developers will unlock the psp.
9. overpriced memory sticks? that's the buyers fault. look around, you'll find one easily for 80, a 4gb goes for 133 on amazon (can't buy a 4 gb nano with that money)
8. flash for web browsing is coming this season. have you been living under a rock?

 » It happended to me!

That happened to mine. First off it didnt work.
Then when I decided to give it another try I plugged it in and then some sickening smell filled the room. I looked at the brick and it was actually smoking. So I went to pick it up but I burned my hand on the melting plastic. I unplugged it and had a horrible migrane from the smoke in the room. I didnt go to bed for like two hours after that because I would have some weird ass brain hemeridge.

BTW my user name is LongFeIIow but I cant log in for some reason.

PM me if you want a picture of this monstrosity.

yea this happened to me too, it worked beautifully for a while, then one day it stopped working. I went to charge it and it wouldn't work, but I could smell buring plastic. So in order to prevent a fire I threw it away...too bad I wasted $20 on that

Dude it even has "brick" in the name. Why in god's name would you bring this near a psp! :D

» dont buy pelican brand electronics

i have boughten 5 diffrent pelican products and i only liked one of them one was a snes controller it cramped up my hands and it cracked because of cheap plastic. another is a wireless ps2 controller it is way to small that my fingers hit every button when i try to push on the x button. The others i have trown away by now. the one i really like its the only one that wasent electronic was the psp case i like it because i can fit my psp 3 memorycards a ds a compact flash card a cleaning cloth the earbuds and a power cord for both systems. i can easily see how this product was called back :)

 » Long overdue

I bought one when it came out. After 3 uses it began overheating and i stopped using it right away. I thought about tossing it but was waiting for something like this. I also got the Nyko power grip, and after a few uses, it began overheating as well, although not to the extent of the power brick.

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-03-28
 » Why so late..?

Took them long enough. These things have been exploding since their debut back in June.

Not only that, but a good deal of the time, they just don't work. (unless you put the plug in a certain way .. It just falls out really easily).

Had so much potential as an idea, though.

Wasn't this bull***** brought out a while ago? I remember seeing explosive pictures of "power bricks." ***** a power brick or pelican product.

The accessories aren't sony's creation. It's like hating a computer because all printers and mp3players suck.

9. Overpriced Memory Sticks: $199 for a 2GB stick! Yea Right!!! I could buy a 40GB iPod for that price!

Memort sticks are always expensive, despite the PSP. They've become cheaper since the psp came out.

8. No Flash for Web Browsing. I feel like I'm stuck in 1992, browsing the web with Compuserve!!!! teeheee

Teheee teh pesp isnt a web bowser lol. It's a portable gaming system (a terrible one at that). OMG I hate this computer the calculator on it doesn't have sin, cos, tan!11! lol

7. Mandatory Updates: You'd think that after paying out the ying yang for a system such as this, they'd actually let you have "some" freedoms.

And let people steal thousands of dollars of software and get sued by nintendo for letting emulators exist right? Since PSPs are sold at a lost, they make money off of the games.

Ok, some apps might suck, but the same thing goes for windows, panther, and everything electronic. You forget with homebrew you get thousands of free old school games, KETM, PSPRadio,Vector Infector, Squarez, RSS feeds and AIM clients, right?

5. No Built in Hard Drive: Ok the iPod can have one and its a quarter of the size... What's fishy about this?

Once again, PSPs are old at a lost, It'd be better to release a HDD for a profit than to give one away.
4. Horrible Graphics. With over a Gigabyte of space on UMD's, advanced ram and processors, the PSP should at least be on level with Playstation 2, instead of looking like Game Boy Advance or PS1.

First of all, GBAs can't even run computer models you dolt. Second, the console is too new to be used to it's full potential. look at Super monkey ball (GCN) and Metroid Prime 2. MP 2 looks better because the company has figured out how to use the cube to it's full potential, as they have been programing for a long time on it. And I forgot, graphics make up the game right? NOt stupid crap like, say, gameplay? This is the reason games like Halo 2 sell so well and why some people won't buy a NDS. BTW, if you can, buy a NDS and MP:H. the new metroid looks like someone took a dump on the screen, but it kicks so much butt it's not even funny.

$250 isn't to much when you have a job. That's when you get money for working, and not from your parents and grandparents during christmas.

2. Battery Level.

Agreed.

1. PSP 2 IS COMING SOON. SOONER THAN YOU THINK...

I would point out that your source (your incredibly slow inbred mind) is unreliable, but you include no source.

BTW, I own both a PSP and a NDS. I think without homebrew NDS>>>>>>NES>>>>>>>>>PSP, but with homebrew, PC>>>>>>>PSP>>>>>>>everything else
