It appears that a portion of the development for Aliens: Colonial Marines has been delegated by Gearbox Software to Section 8 devs, TimeGate Studios.
This is the implication of a recent job advertisment posted over at Gamasutra, which clearly states that TimeGate is "looking to expand its team of ultimate badasses working on Aliens: Colonial Marines". Specifically, they are looking for new people to help out on the level design as well as on the user interface.
Hearing this now, it doesn't seem all too farfetched, especially Gearbox's Randy Pitchford did let it slip back in June that they found "development partners" who "brought some incredible ideas to the table, including TimeGate Studios."
At that time, the depth of TimeGate's involvement in the game's development remained unclear, but with this job posting, that mystery may have very well been answered already.
If that's the case - and most likely, it is - then this should be one heck of a collaboration. The devs are also hyping up the arrival of the game, saying that its storyline is definitely more crafted than that of Left 4 Dead. Here's some 11 minutes of gameplay footage to see how true that statement is so far.

We all know how tough it is to break into China's gaming industry. That's why when word leaks out of a supposed event by none other than WoW-makers, Blizzard, tongues are sure to be set wagging.
According to the insider, a local gaming event hosted by Blizzard, along with their Chinese partner NetEase, willl be held in over 10 cities in the country. Details remain to be very scarce, but it is also believed that Heart of the Swarm and Diablo III will also be present at the event, probably to ease their welcome into the Chinese territory.
If this does pan out, then it's going to be a huge milestone for Blizzard, considering all that drama that went down with China on World of Warcraft in the past. Nonetheless, it's undoubted that the Chinese love their WoW. See, even their prisoners are reportedly gold farming inside their prisons.

A new update has been rolled out by Deep Silver on Steam for Dead Island PC.

The update, otehrwise known as 1.2.1, brings in fixes for the launch issues that came along with the previously released patch. Apart from this, however, the devs have yet to release an official changelog.
It's going to be available as an automatic download, so be sure you have some 79MB free space on your harddrive before you log in to your Steam client the next time around.
Another thing to look forward to is the Bloodbath Arena DLC, which has now been given a new release window for November, to give the devs more time to fix up whatever it is that needs fixing. We'll keep you posted on more details on that as they come.

Much controversy was stirred when ESRB released its ratings description for Battlefield 3, wherein it revealed that players will have to shoot cops to complete a mission.
Said ESRB then, "In one sequence, a restrained character's throat is slit (off-screen); in another, players shoot police officers to complete a mission objective. The words 'f***' and 's***' can be heard frequently in the dialogue."
To this, the publisher sent out their response to Eurogamer, rather flippantly at that. "I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God's sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!"
That statement in itself is worthy of yet another controversy, and we expect more to be brewing from this in the coming days. In the meantime, the PS3 Slim vault bundle for the M-rated title has been revealed, alongside a bunch of other pre-order goods. The beta is currently ongoing as well, and while it's been beset with problems at the onset, EA  has released their list of the top 10 issues, as well as the solutions they're working on for it.

November is going to be a huge month for gamers, with a ton of top-grade titles coming out that season. For Volition Games, however, there is definitely no concern for this fact, particularly with the release of Saints Row: The Third.
Said lead designer Scott Phillips in a recent video interview, "Looking at everybody else that's out in November, obviously there's a lot of huge games. But I think everyone can also see that a lot of those games are basically the same as they were last year, and the year before and the year before. And I hink that we are something that's brand new; totally different."
Simply put, there's no fear in releasing their game the same time as all the expected blockbusters are because "We're not trying to teach you a lesson or make you cry, we want you to just laugh and have a blast the whole time."
That should be a very feasible goal for them. In the meantime, if your goal is to make ice bullets, then you definitely should pick up the Smooth Criminal Edition for Saints Row: The Third. There's also a Platinum Pack ready for your consumption if that should be your interest.

Unfortunately, no level cap increase will be happening for Uncharted 3, contrary to reports last week indicating such.
Naughty Dog Community Moderator EvangM clarified the misunderstanding in their offical forums, saying thus:
"There was some communication and a blog post was authored which mentioned that there would be an increase in the level cap along with new maps.
The new maps will still be deployed later today, but there will be no level cap increase during the Subway/ Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Experience. Sorry for the confusion, hope this clears things up."
That's too bad for those who had their hopes up for this. Nonetheless, this certainly doesn't make Uncharted 3 any less of a good game.
Anyway, Uncharted 3 is set to come out on November 1st, just literally a couple of weeks away, and should feature the PSN Pass. There's also a mini-TV drama series coming from Sony Japan.

Although the trilogy of the Mass Effect series is wounding down to a close come 2012, there is still much to look forward to from its developers, BioWare, that's for sure.
Series Executive Producer and Project Director for Mass Effect 3, Casey Hudson, sat down in a recent interview to talk about their upcoming title, their feelings on its end, and on their future plans.
While we already have a ton of details pouring out everyday about Mass Effect 3, it does remain curious how the developers are taking it, the fact that this is going to be Shepard's last outing. "It feels very satisfying," said Casey.
"We're looking forward to giving Shepard's story a satisfying conclusion and letting all of the players' hard work in fighting the Reapers pay off. We're going to new territory on an emotional level, and that's what will make Mass Effect 3 eve more satisfying to deliver to players who may only be prepared for a conventional videogame story."
Despite the many accolades that the developer has won in the past - both from award-giving bodies and critics alike - they still are on their toes, ensuring that the fans will be able to get what they paid for in terms of content. "More importanly, this is the beginning and end of the biggest events so far in the Mass Effect universe, so it's an opportunity for new players to join fans of the series in experiencing this final war against the Reapers.
It's all taken to a much higher scale than we've attempted before. And the best part is that we're doing things on an emotional level that represent exciting new creative risks that I think players will appreciate."
As for their plans in the future, this is what he had to say: "We have some amazing things planned for the future, including an animated film being developed by Funimation, and a major motion picture in the works at Legendary Pictures. I think the movie will propel the Mass Effect universe to new levels of success as it finds an even wider audience, and we're certainly interested in continuing to build on the universe through future games."
Mass Effect 3 is set for a release next year, and has so far been confirmed to have multiplayer. Meanwhile, talks of a PSN Pass requirement is also in the air, but that's yet to be made final or official.

The collaboration of Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl is about to be unleashed to the PC gaming world. Well, at least a little bit of it.
The demo for indie action-RPG game, The Binding of Isaac, is already out and available for download for your enjoyment. Here, you will follow the character of Isaac as he goes on an adventure from a RPG shooter setting to one where he goes on a treasure hunt.
Odd as the caboodles he find may be, these are actually the ones that will be giving him super human abilities. Good thing, too, because he'll be up against tons of creatures otherwise unknown.
The Binding of Isaac's demo is now available and ready to play for free, but if you'd want to pick up the full game, then it's going to set you back some 4.99 euros from Steam.

Demon's Souls may be on its final stretch before it breathes its last sight, but that doesn't mean that it will do so without a fight.
With its second year anniversary coming up, Atlus is giving you one last hurrah in the form of new bonuses, which, for all intents and purposes, make you insert that disc on your PS3 one more time.
First is the Wolrd Tendency feature, which basically sets the difficult level of the game and in some of the special events in-game. For this celebration, all throughout the month of October, Atlus will be introduing the 'Pure White' feature in lieu of the World Tendency, which essentially limits the player's ability to access some areas, given that the world is mostly in a Neutral state.
Of course, those familiar with Demon's Souls will be quick to understand these jargons. Do take note that the Pure White feature will be available until October 17th. For the rest of the month, then, Atlus will introduce Pure Black, further upping the difficulty level of the game and making more hidden secrets.
Just last month, Atlus also further extended the online servers for the game. It's been a fun two-year ride, so join Atlus in this last spur of celebration for their game.

It took them the PSP Go to finally make a hardline stance on the matter, but now Sony has seen the light and is insisting that now is not the time for a download-only console.
Said Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios boss, "We believe, for some consumers, the time is [right], but for other consumers, the time is still not [right]. So we believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform."
What could be the deciding factor as to why they are siding with those consumers who not ready for a download-only approach in gaming? It's simple: broadband internet. "Some PS Vita titles, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, will be close to 4GB in size, which could be too large to download for consumers who do not have a fast broadband connection." But apart from this, "Some consumers like shopping in retail stores, talking to knowledgeable store clerks, buying and playing games on the spot. We do not want to remove that capability from consumers."
SCEE's Jim Ryan concurs, saying that, "There are consumers in parts of the world - this is a global device - where the digital model has not yet fully been embraced." And it's true, really. In fact, in a study recently concluded, not even the US or UK are in the forerunners of downloading speed. And mind you, everyone gets just a tad bit -- okay, that's not true, a whole LOT -- more impatient when it comes to downloading their stuff on the Internet. What more if it's a game that you've been waiting for eons to come?
Nobody would want to sit around several hours just waiting for the download to finish, on top of the full year (at a minimum) that you've already spent just waiting in anticipation for the game to hit retail.
I would have to agree with Sony on this one. The global infrastructure for a hi-speed connection just isn't all that well set yet. Of course, as a business, they'll have to take into top consideration as well what their other consumers' capacity for enjoying their products are going to be.
The failure of the PSP Go most definitely made this impact on them. Releasing the system without the UMD was a misstep on their part, which they immediately realized when it went dead cold on store shelves just months after its launch. And then they atoned for it by coming up with the PlayStation Vita.
Not to say that a download-only console will be nay possible in the future, but as for now, am fine with my physical media as it is. There's someting fairly comforting having it in the palm of my hands.

For the first time since it was announced, we will now be getting to see a glimpse of what awaits us in the final three years of Harry Potter and the gang's Lego-fied adventure, thanks to this very first trailer for the LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-
Of course we all know how the story went. A lot of important characters died in the book, and shown in the movie as well, of course, such as Dumbledore and Snape. Heck, even Harry died. But he did go back to life and in the end defeeated Voldemort.
Oh, you didn't finish all the way to the end of the series? Come on, even the movie is finished already, and that's after the book came out some couple of years back! I suggest you go finish it before this game version comes out.
Not that it's going to matter in how you play the game, but am guessing it's just going to be more fun seeing the words from the book, and the scenes from the movie, transformed into these adorable building blocks.

It's not just you who finds the PC version problems for Rage frustrating. id Software boss, John Carmack, is one with you on that, actually. After all, they did aim to make no delineations in quality for both the console and PC versions.
Said Carmack, "We have had video drives issues that have caused problems and frustrations with our PC fans. Everyone at id Software is very upset by these issues which are mostly out of our control. We are working with both AMD/ATI and Nvidia to help them identify and fix the issues with their drivers."
As Tim Willits further corroborated, when the game was submitted to the "build system", they found the console versions to be "solid and bug-free." Unfortunately, the PC ones weren't.
What matters more to them now is to make sure that these issues be addressed immediately and efficiently. "We've had assurances that these problems are being addressed and new drivers will be available soon," said Carmack.
"We knew that all older AMD drivers, and some Nvidia dirvers would have problems with the game, but we were running well in-house on all of our test systems. When launch day came around and the wrong driver got released, half of our PC customers got a product that basically didn't work. The fact that the working driver has incompatibilities with other titles doesn't help either. Issues with older/lower end/ exotic setups are to be expected on a PC releaes, but we were not happy with the experience on what should be prime platforms."
In the end, this was what Carmack had to say about the issues that arose on their PC version of Rage -- and it's going to be quite controversial once again, definitely.
"We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games. That statement will enrage some people, but it is hard to characterize it otherwise; both console versions will have larger audiences than the PC version. A high end PC is nearly 10 times as powerful as a console, and we could unquestionably provide a better experience if we chose that as our design point and we were able to expent the same amount of resources on it."
To cushion the driver ssues, Bethesda had previously offered PC Performance tips to PC gamers. Oh well, them's the breaks. Rage set out to have it all, but unfortunately, the PC version just couldn't catch the wave alongside the console ones.

With the Battlefield 3 beta in full swing, you can bet that EA DICE has certainly got your back.To keep you all updated on the going-ons in the beta, EA DICE has posted on their official Battlefield 3 blog about the top 10 open beta issues, and what they are doing to address them.
Among the issues identified would be the one regarding squads, particularly when players cannot play with their friends, even when they are from the same squad. To answer this, DICE is promising that they will be coming out an improved squad functionality for the final version of the game. Another is the one regarding the additional Open Beta content, as well as the fixes and patches for the console versions. To this, DICE responds, "While we would like to patch the Open Beta, DICE is currently focusing its available resources on polishing the retail game." Simply put, it's going to have to be a no for now.
The rest of the issues are on:
change settings/options
terrain stability on Operation Metro
Kill cam
sprint bug
screen flickering/ stuttering
downed bodies not dead
hit detection different from BFBC 2
For their answers, and the correspoding elaboration, feel free to head over to Battlefield 3's official blog. It's going to provide you with a lot of enlightening answers, that's for sure. Your loyalty to the Hitman series will soon be rewarded in Hitman: Absolution, thanks to a specially-designed level, that's sure to test your wiles.
IO Interactive confirmed via lead producer Hakan Abrak that a hardcore mode has been put in and shaped to make you feel as if you were being transported to iterations past in the sereis.
Explained Abrak, "We will get into more details at a later point, but obviously it's linked to the playing style. It's more pacify for your enemies, be undetected, maybe solve the challenges in a smarter way. That will probably give you a stealth assassin achievement."
And while a lot of the loyal fans were pretty disappointed with the seeming change in direction of Hitman, with the demo implying that the hardcore stealth gameplay had been ditched, Abrak reassures, saying thus:
"We have a lot of difficulty levels in the game as well. Rest assured, the hardcore fans that like to have replayability value in the game or want to have this stealth assassin - you know, I'm the ultimate stealth assassin - the playing style, those achievements are very much in the game.
There's a huge replayability value in it and we have some features in the game I cannot speak about that will enhance this and make this easier, and heighten the replayability value for the players as well."
Hitman: Absolution has also been said to be more personal, with Agent 47 pretty much setting out on his own. For more details on it, check out this link.
