Smokers get the dubious fashion treatment with the Smoking Jacket, a snappy little number that not only promises to be a functional and wearable smoke trap, but also as an iconic warning system of sorts about the dangers of puffing and huffing them sticks.

Fiona Carswell, inventor of the Smoking Jacket, explained how one uses the garment in the event of the aforementioned smoker being in non-smoking company: the smoker, having taken a drag off his or her cigarette, exhales into the one-way air valve in the Smoking Jacket's collar.

The exhaled smoke is then funneled through some tubing, trapping the fumes in a pair of plastic lungs that darkens gradually - imitating the deadly effect nicotine has on lungs.

Sounds almost contradicting for smokers - to wear something that actually broadcasts your smoking habits while functioning as a convenient smoke trap. As it turns out, however, some smokers actually liked wearing the jacket. That is, until the lungs themselves turned brown, which they felt it was as tasteful as wearing used diapers on your head (read: gross).

In any case, it's a handy thing, to have a portable smoke filter to avoid those public smoke-in-your-face incidents. Not sure about it being a "warning" system though, because even yours truly (non-smoker and proud) is tempted to buy it and show it off, just for the shock factor. Still, it's good to know that people are thinking of more creative ways to raise awareness about smoking rather than just the warning labels we see on cigarette packs.
