It looks like China's piracy market has recently gotten another pillar to grow on. With the development of the flash hacks applicable to the Xbox 360's disc drive, illegally copied 360 games have spread in China like wildfire. Vendors sell games like Hitman: Blood Money for around $3.50. Even newer games, Ninety-Nine Nights for example, are almost instantly available.

Certain stores in Shanghai apparently even offer to flash Xbox 360s for free. However, due to the price of the Xbox 360 and the relative low wages in China, not many people can afford the console, so this limits the popularity of Xbox 360 piracy somewhat. Pirated Xbox 1 and Playstation 2 discs are still keeping the pole-position.

Microsoft will eventually try to strike back, be it with downloadable system updates via Xbox Live, which will make the exploit useless, or other methods. Back in May, Microsoft's reaction to the newly-discovered hacks was, "The core security system has not been broken. However, on some Xbox 360 consoles the authentication protocol between the optical disc drive and the console may be attacked via a complex software and hardware modification which could allow people to play illegally copied and modified games. We continue to invest in the security of the platform and will respond appropriately as unauthorized activity is identified".

Given the nature of the exploits, which are rather easy to do even for inexperienced people, their response needs to come sooner rather than later.

Can you play backups without a mod?

   by spud6754 (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
 » NO you can't

#3 you cant play backups without modding your console.

Sooner or later this will be fixed on Live and we no how the Live updates go.

Update or you will be signed off. 360 isnt too much fun without Live.

PIRACY IS WRONG.
FCK U LOT OF 817CHES

» Piracy may be wrong but.....

Who cares?

Everyone deos it. Downloading a MP3 that you didnt buy is piracy and just as bad as pirating Xbox360 games.

Not one person here can tell they they have never pirated anything. Saving someone elses pictures from the internet is a form of piracy, Downloadingm MP3, movies, games.

So for the 5 people above me, you can shut up because there isnt one person who browses the internet who hasnt pirated something.

lol take that MS and your *****ty console.
as for the argument of Live being the main thing keeping people from modding. Well sorry to break the news to you, but only half of the 360 users according to MS uses live, and the other half haven't even logged into live since they bought it.

Ps3 FTW!!

yep i totally agree. if it means i can play $1000's games for practically for free, will i be willing to trade that advantage just to play some games on Live that i could otherwise play on the PC for free? hell no!!!

60% of 360 owners are connected to Live, and how many members does PS2 online have? About two to three million, out of 100 million consoles... that's sad.

And before some lamer fanboy attacks me for comparing 360 to PS2, original Xbox had more Live members with far less consoles sold. I believe the Xbox 1 had sold around 40 million units before 360s release, with about 3 million of them connected to Live. PS2 had about 97 million units sold, with only around 2.5 million online members... do the math

And you do realise it's probably not even possible to go above a 70% online rate? Because not everybody has broadband, dumba$$

wtf you talking about dumbass... i was talking about how 40+% of users don't really care much for live. Now to them, the wouldn't give a ***** whether they can play online or not, which would mean they would be more incline to pirate their games.

as for comparing to the ps2, i don't know what the ***** you are talking you dumbass, nor has it got anything to what i was talking about in my post nor did i ever debate about comparing the ps2 and 360 online capabilities. so please stfu and think before you post please. haha, got owned..

read my post again before you go continue on with your dribble and make yourself look more like an ass then you already are mr.8yearold. hahaha

PS3 FTW!!

@ #10

You will be the kinda guy who doesnt like Live simply because its Microsoft. But if Sony do a decent job providing online you will think its that greatest thing since sliced bread.

Compairing PS2-360 doesnt work but we all no that Xbox owns PS2 for online.

Will 360 own PS3 online? Maybe, but we can all argee that Mircosoft has done a fantastic job on Live.

The people who disagree are fanboys and noone really cares what they think do they?

Now if only people like #10 could get their heads outta sonys a$$ they would see the the 360 is a great console and is getting better month by month.

I wish you mommy good luck getting you a PS3 this xmas.
