I won't be able to update X-Flash in the near future, due to work commitments. I was only planning to add support for one later DAX firmware, since the topmenu_plugin mods don't work after that. The release of X-Flash source code does not mean that I won't update it someday. It is quite likely that one day, out of nowhere, an official V19 will appear unexpectedly ;) I must warn PSP owners against using any derivative... how do I put it... attempted updates produced by lamers. I would find it offensive to see X-Flash updates with no real merit appearing on forums, although I expect it to happen. X-Flash source is released for educational purposes for all the people who wanted to know how I did various things... not to encourage offspring. |

we've all been in a x-flashless drought recently, and though flash agent works ok for me, being on 3.10 OE, i sorely miss my tried and true favorite.
ha already another comment. i was first when i clicked.
i think i speak for everyone here when i say "we want v19a!".
make that "someday" tomorrow, please?

It's great that the source is out. Art was an amazing dev, and his work shall be sorely missed, but at least other devs can pickup the reins. Heck, even I'll try to see if I can patch it for 3.10!
@kyle: That was totally uncalled for. I agree that he was abit misguided, but that doesn't warrant at all that kind of language. If you said that on the forums you would be banned for sure.

I find it hard to see why many PSP developers dislike derivatives of their work (unless the modifier doesn't give credit). If you give credit to the original developer there shouldn't really be anything wrong with making improvements to another person's work when they supply the materials to do so.
Oh well, it's his app, he can say what he likes.

It's because the same name will most likely be attached to the derivative work. Even if it is made clear that the work is by a different developer and credit is given to the original creator, if the derivative work is inferior, it has the potential to make the original developer look bad. It's the same logic behind defending trademarked names - if you were to buy a knockoff watch, but it was branded with another company's name, you may get the idea that that named company produces inferior products.
I think Art's real concern is that people will release updates that don't function properly, and somehow he will get blamed for it. Never underestimate the power of people to make false assumptions.

what you say is true for unproblematic things like PMP. but this app is for flashing and shouldnt be for bricking...
also x-flash has a style of his own. this has nothing to do with function but with interfacing. its really the best ive seen for psp, and its arts style i would say. if you want to improve this, make your own app, include stuff from sourcecode, give credit, and have own interface and name.
just my 2 cents, but its right!

Why would a person choose to run X-Flash or other Flashing app when you can Flash through the Recovery Menu of OE FW??

Why would you use a GUI when you can use a command prompt?
It's simply a matter of ease of use. Some people prefer apps that simply involve selecting an option through a menu, such as X-Flash.

I was an avid user of X-flash also, but I have gotten used to the manual hacks. Although if it gets updated to include all of the new hacks, I would be all over it.
