Ó

A World of Warcraft player was banned from the game for using Logitech's new gaming keyboard. The keyboard allows you to program macro's that can make playing the game easier.  Check out the emails that were sent between Blizzard and the user of the keyboard.  This is some pretty crazy stuff.

This issue is attracting some well deserved attention from WoW gamers, asking the question "..if I do this is it cheating?".  Although Blizzard has published guidelines with regards to bots, scripting and the use of macros there are a substantial amount of loop holes and it seems that the "grey" areas that are not being covered are causing some contraversy.  What about the 150,000 gold farmers and teleport hackers that are simply roaming free in the game?

This is the third or fourth shady thing I've heard about WoW. They are within their right to ban him as they run the game but this just falls under the umbrella of stupidity.

I'll just keep stickin' with Guild Wars, thanks.

now i know to stay away from WOW. from their behaviour it sounds more like a nazi-regime than a game developer to me. not the first bad thing i have heard about Blizzard though...

 » cheating??

Who would sit in one spot for "some hours" just pressing a button, for some reason I don't think that the developers intended for the game to by played like that. Now, I play WoW for a few hours at a time, but it involves paying total attention to what is going on in the game. How can you tell the difference between a bot doing the work and someone watching a movie and pressing a button on their keyboard paying no attention to the game whatsoever? Blizzard could have easily mistaken him for a bot, and when it comes down to it that is all that matters.

I have a G15 which I have configured afew macros for, hope I don't get treated like this. I have one button for my paladin which switches to Concentration Aura, Selects Myself, Heals, then switches to Sanctity Aura. That's not botting, that's clever use of Macros.

I'd say it's close to impossible to get the G15 to fully automate the game. There's too many things to factor in that can't be covered with a simple key pressing macro.

 » lost funds..

my boys have nothing but the best. G15s all around.
All 300 of them. I was thinking of a WoW tourney for them to blow off steam.. But NOW, I think i won't spend the $80 per game, plus fees. So that means that Blizzard is going to miss out on, what, $24,000 plus fees.. plus expansion investments.. OOPS.. plus the loss of a beta testing group.. OOPS.. And just wait till my boss Mr. Henderson of Henderson/ Las Vegas Nevada gets my report.. the entire gaming community will drop this game like a bad habbit.. The NV gaming commision may stop by to say hello to the Blizzard Central for obvious gaming FRAUD.. OOPS..

Ya gotta love the system..

 » sure...

It's strange though that Logitech doesn't support Linux and all the features on the G15 are software dependant. If you don't have drivers, how can you use the full potential of the keyboard and program the macros ? Weird huh ?

Talk about the wrong stuff! But I think this isn't quite correct... It wont work without software, they can't fool blizzard, and bot users deserve no mercy. Go Blizzard!
