Chinese teen perpetrator nabbed for burning classmate after playing WoW - Image 1Video game violence has always been an iffy issue in society. Case in point, a 17-year old teen from Beijing got into an argument with a classmate and ended up turning into a real-life Fire Mage after playing Blizzard's World of Warcraft as he ended up dumping a water bottle full of gasoline on his victim and lit him up.

The perpetrator was sentenced to 8 years in jail, with an accomplice receiving 7 years. The families of both the perpetrator and the accomplice was required to pay 760,000 Chinese yuan in restitution to the victim.

World of Warcraft is distributed in China by The9 and offer a means of escape for tens of millions of Chinese playing this MMORPG. Thankfully, no further legal red tape was extended past the sentence and restitution was isolated within the payment of the victim's family.

However, this serves a harsh lesson for those who push the line by crossing the virtual with reality. So remember, kids. Just keep everything clean and inside the game while have some good clean fun playing WoW.

How is this considered video game violence? You dont poor gasoline on anyone and light them on fire in WoW. How does this constitute VG violence. This just points out thats kids are dumb all over the world.

» this has nothing to do with wow

stop blaming video games when it didn't do anything. what are they going to blame next? burnout cause car accidents? while they are at it, blame suicides, skiing accidents, and accidents from mountain climbing on games too. Things like these and stealing cars happen even before games such as gta came out, so how or why do they blame the games for it. This ticks me off. I don't see people blaming books for swearing and fighting, I'm sure I read a ton of those before. (example , lord of the flies)
