Lionsgate will be the first studio to be rolling out web-enabled Blu-ray discs come January of next year. This is despite the fact that there are still no Blu-ray players out there that can support the online networking functions of the BD-Live discs. Yet.

Regardless, Lionsgate will still be releasing BD-Live movies next month, in the form of War on January 1 and Saw 4 on January 22. War will include a web-based game that allows users to hook up with other people online for a battle, while Saw 4 was revealed to include some form of web sharing of content (the details of which haven't been specified).

Prior to this, the only other movies confirmed to support BD-Live connectivity are Sleeping Beauty and National Treasure, which will be released later next year.

With regards to hardware supporting the said BD-Live feature, it's going to be none other than the PlayStation 3 to be one of the first in line. Current Blu-ray players in the market (including the PS3) do not support BD-Live, but it's now been confirmed that a PS3 firmware update will be rolling out as early as this month to incorporate BD-Live playback into the system.
