Arctic sea ice cover melting faster than predicted - Image 1Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reminded the world back in February that global warming is indeed caused by us, humans. More than a research finding, the report is a wake-up call to all of us.

And if that didn't do the trick, here's another scary fact: National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) now reports that the Arctic Sea ice is melting faster than predicted. IPCC predicted that there's a very high possibility that the Arctic will be free of ice within the time frame of 2050 to 2100.

This was based from data gathered from climate simulation models. Accordingly, the average ice cover loss per decade from 1953 to 2006 is around 2.6% while the highest was at 5.4%.

Study member Julienne Stroeve, and part of the National Snow and Ice Data Center, mentioned that it was recently found out that these percentages are conservative estimates of the future Arctic change. More reliable satellite instruments recorded the ice decline from the same period at around 7.8% per decade.

Another study member, NCAR's Marika Holland, put it best as she said, "While the ice is disappearing faster than the computer models indicate, both observations and the models point in the same direction: The Arctic is losing ice at an increasingly rapid pace and the impact of greenhouse gases is growing."

 » so what?

The anarctic ice cap is increasing at the same rate the arctic ice cap is melting.

So why are you posting articles about half truths?

Get off this "global warming" kick. It's normal for the earth to cycle, we're headed for a cycle peak in 2011.

i agree with brian that this is a bunch of crap. In the 1000s or medievel times they had a peak in temperature way above ours and that didnt harm anything. plus when the us was using the factories the most( im not sure what its called. its sorta like the industrial revolution but its later and has to do with machine factories) there was no increase in temperature and to point out they were releasing a lot more co2 at that time. plus humans animal decaying leaves and the ocean release tons more co2 than the factories all put together. Things like this happen all the time. a couple years ago they thought we were going into an ice age and nothing happened, now they think we will overheat and die if nothing happens. people think the fish are going to die out and insects will take over.

to the point what type of crap is the media feeding us these days. Its even gotten to Qj about this bologni or shall i say bs for short. People dont want people in africa to use the money given to them for fossil fuels which they have lots of resources to use for. instead countries are forcing them to use solar power and wind power which is a lot more expensive unreliable and gets a lot less electricity. People actually believe its the end of the world.

if u look at the levels of co2 and the temperature it actually shows that the sun causes co2 to rise and not the co2 causing temperature increase it also shows levels of co2 increase trailing behind temp increase. the reason being is heated oceans release tons of co2. so dont believe in the green house effect.
