If you've been wondering about PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.40, wonder no more. New details are up regarding firmware 2.40, and they come in the form of videos and a release date.
To keep it simple, let's make a couple of things clear. Yes, there will be an in-game XMB come 2.40; and yes, there will be a trophy system that's going to be implemented when 2.40 goes live, beginning with Super Stardust HD. What we were surprised to find out, however, was the actual release date for the firmware update: it's coming out on July 2. In any event, Sony's Eric Lempel and Jeff Rubenstein have more on the in-game XMB and trophy system in two new videos released on the PlayStation blog. You can watch them below, and find additional information on the two systems by visiting the PlayStation blog below. it is different. you could change the language on the system before. now with this new update, if you play a game of warhawk with someone and they check your profile; they can tell what languages you speak and possibly communicate with you via bluetooth headset.

This is great, every ps3 owner has been waiting for this!
I didnt relise you could launch games, without qutting the one you're playing, this is an awesome update.
Google search isnt the greatest invention, but il use it, seen as its there.

Also, the language feature has been there since the release, nothing new there apart from the look.

To launch a new game you're asked to quit the current game. It's still cool that it allows you to skip a couple steps though.

it means more time wasted they should enable it so if you hold down R1 and the PS then it skips, etc
and to access the xmb you need to double tap the PS button
but anyway, languages isnt new, theyve provided the base and it will be regularly updated just to improve a few things to users wishes
also see the languages, i was thinking about this a while ago, why dont they other the ability to mute the languages you dont have a clue about
i fin that feature would be handy
anyway there was a few other things
oh aye i wont have my AX360 by the time it come out , damn looking forward to listerning to music with them

Yay, but I really hope they upped the Flash player too (c'mon, at least 8.0). Still, a clock, trophies, and an in-game XMB with music is really nice. Wonder if you can access it from a PS2 or PS1 game?

But, even though it comes out early, there aren't any games that implement the customizable soundtracks are there? Or will it work for all PS3 games and just go over the game music? Most games have an option to turn down the music and the iPod in MGS4 disables the BGM when it's equipped.
I hope MGS4 will be patched for trophy support soon.

Trophies blah how man slides you have to go in order to them all up? Left, down, right, right, right down, down, right. too many sub folders

And for your info, the user interface is a lot more intuitive than the xblades or wotever. Going to media - music/pics/videos, you're able to view. But if you want to delete them, you have to B B B all the way back then right right right to memory, then A A A to delete, then down down down to select what to delete. Plus you cant even view what you are about to delete.
Now left left left (work damn it i said left!)
Worst user interface i have ever used and worse than 3 yr old mobile phones. Signs of poor quality control.
but you dont like music on consoles? trophys blah? But gamerscore is cool yeh?
Its alrite, you dont have to buy a PS3.
