The homebrew community literally danced with joy when Noobz learned all about the heaven-sent Illuminati exploit for PlayStation Portable official firmware 3.50. In case you've been living in some other universe these past few days, this exploit allows you to downgrade and enable homebrew on your PSP with the help of innocent-looking Lumines UMD.

After that, Fanjita (with the help of other homebrew stalwarts) finally released the downgrader package we've all been waiting for. All of these updates are accompanied by step-by-step instructions on how to use the downgrader. To avoid any confusion and unwanted bricking, we're posting a video clip below showing how you can perform the trick.

The video was sent to us via email and is under the YouTube username of barroni1977. Thanks for the heads up!

 » whaty kind of psp

what kind of psp can it downgrade. if i bought my psp today with FW 3.50 and a Luminies UMD, would it be able to get downgraded? or would it brick?

Re: no one (Unregistered) - 2007-06-28
 » RE:

it might have a problem with the backlight but there is always a risk of briking.

   Re: Sentinel (Unregistered) - 2007-06-28
 » Here's the deal...

OK, In my case I bought a brand spankin' new psp that was "R" in the upper barcode, which indicated it was FW 3.40 inside.
When I got home, I opened it and saw it was FW 3.40 by default. I then looked at the motherboard and saw it was a TA-082 and thought "OMG, I'm screwed!"
This was 3 months BEFORE the 3.50 DGR release...
Then yesterday, I decided to take the risk because the PSP is MIGHTY boring with it by it self (no homebrew).
I followed the instructions PROPERLY and SUCCESSFULLY Downgraded my psp using Noobz DGRDR.
THIS IS FOR REAL GUYS. I couldn't believe it myself at first so I looked at the system info and saw it was 1.50.
YESTERDAY was the Happiest day of my PSP's life!
now I'm going homebrew crazy and even admit to have downloaded a few ISOs that I dont legally own just to *try out :D
Here are my specs for those wondering...

PSP Unit:
-psp 1002, FW 3.40 mobo TA-082 (Australian)
-UMD Lumines - Puzzle Fusion (ULUS-1002)
-PC running Vista Ult OS.
-Common sense + patience + the ability to follow instructions CAREFULLY.

If you have those, then I GUARANTEE you that the RISK of brickage is almost non existant.

Thank you Noobz, DA, Booster, Fanjita, Malemuth (I think...), and whom ever else that took part of this release.

I'l' be donating $20 AUS each to these guys using their donation link on their sites by Sunday (29-06-07) just to show how appreciative I am for their incredible work.
I suggest those who have the time and genorousity that use this product should also show it in some way.
Remember, those ppls probably lost their beloved psp during its experimentation days for the sake of THE WHOLE COMMUNITY benifiting as we do now. And the $ you give to them will assist them on their future releases.

*cheers to everybody in the scene and happy customizing! (I know I am... :D)

Anyone think that big OK at the end of the downgrade process looked a little like the one in the video of the magical unbricker video from china. I mean... coincidence, planned?

» Attention ALL ppl who ARE somewhat or just Confused:

YOU NEED THE REAL "LUMINES" UMD

NOT ISO, CSO, or Whatever!!

THE REAL THING IS NEEDED!!

THE ISO WOULD NOT RUN ON ver3.50 Anyways, So Don't Even Try. *trust me, save you more time for ureself*

ALL YOU NEED IS THE "UMD"!! and 3.50 DOWNGRADER Pack!! found here or amywhere else with the homebrew community.

Amen *_*

i agree, but at least someone took the time to make a video for people who are more visual. plus it cant hurt to SEE something done.
   by Bryan (Unregistered) - 2007-06-28
 » YES!!!

That looks identical to the unbricking memory stick vid! I thought the same exact thing when I saw that big OK at the end. was like WTF!!!??? Maybe the developers did that on purpose to make it look like those vids.

Why was I banned? Apparently I can reply to my own message but I cant post new messages. It says...You have been banned by administrator and you will not be able to post comments or submit trackbacks anymore. Whats up with that???

   Re: Sentinel (Unregistered) - 2007-06-28
 » I think...

It's probably due to the users that have bad eye sights :D
You can't miss that OOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKK! right. And it should also help the little kids that ettempts this process. most of them turns their psp off during the process, hence a brick. Then they go and make a youtube video on how stupid the Downgrader was and it broke their toy.

In my opinion, this HUGE "OK" is a good idea compared to the recent ones. The others you cant really tell unless you go close to the screen (viewable reach). In this case, it is MUCH easier to work with it when you have it docked and hooked up on the usb cable.

The only comment I can say is that it should've been in different color each release.
I'm personally starting to get annoyed at that pinkish/red/maroon text.

*I WISH THEY RELEASE IT WITH A TEXT COLOR OPTION! PLS!!!*

And it would be REAL AWSOME if they make a PROPER/OFFICIAL Mini CD Cover and Labels for this. It would be cool carrying a mini disc with an internationally reknowned cover that psp homebrew users can identify in 1st glance.

   Re: rules (Unregistered) - 2007-06-28
 » rules

for everyone who is asking how to downgrade
1) you need to have a 3.50 psp (regardless)(it can be any type of psp)
2)you MUST have the uk or us version of lumines, that means no iso or cso.
3)your done and you hsve fun:)

This is good, its great to see that those ppl who have been upgrading all this time and just recently discovered homebrew will get their wish.
We've won the battle to keep homebrew on the PSP but we arn't winning in the PS3 homebrew battle, I hope that exploit they found in the PS3 turns into a new world for the PS3 with custom fireware with a host of applications.
Does anyone know what happend to that story, if so please tell me
