While shell programs are literally a dime-a-dozen around the PlayStation Portable homebrew community, it doesn't stop them from becoming interesting finds for the more avid homebrew fan. This latest shell application was developed by Jack, entitled "Ubuntu 7.10 v0.1 beta. The biggest selling point of this app is that it was filed under a GNU/linux software license, which any programmer can modify and redistribute under the terms of the licence. Ubuntu 7.10 v0.1 comes with its own set of handy features as well. Here's a list of its basic features:

I got it 3 disk of this OS PASS it on
I tried to port this to the PSP using the OS virtually and using an Botsch Eboot that suppose to run linux or windows Virtual OS on the 1.50 PSP, since the new CFW have 1.50 CFW it should work....
But didn't...
I guess making a Lua Shell Application port is faster and easier, but is not the same OS, not even virtually
Well still is cool and gtreat...
I'm planning to install this Ubuntu OS for PC to my next Laptop :)

In short, it's just a shell with an Ubuntu-ish skin. You could just as easily replace the backgrounds with the default MS images and call it Vista.

Windows 95 is able to be ran on the PSP because it only requires 4 MB of RAM (Normal PSP has 32 MB RAM, Slim has 64MB), If Win95 runs, then that means Damn Small Linux probably could too, as it only takes up about 50MB, and uses about 16MB RAM. I don't know if the PSP's CPU can be used for it though, DSL needs a x86 processor, and I don't know if it is one, or if it's not.

Thanks for clearing things up, I suppose it too can be done, having an OS that could (probably, I don't know) run at decent speed could provide for a PDA-like system if you throw a IR-keyboard in the mix.

This POS soft bricked my system! I ran the shell, got to the login screen, and never could login, and when I exited, my system crashed, when it came back up, everything was in Chinese. I restarted the system, and all the settings where gone, i was back at the original setup screen. It lost my system name, wan settings everything, it completely dumped. Ever since I have not been able to get the cwcheat plugin to work (and no, cw was not on when I tried to run Ubuntu)
If crazyC can port dos that will run dos games, win 3.1, and win 95, why can't someone come out with a decent OS port, granted I'm no coder, but don't brick my sh... with bad code.
Also I ran the read me files through google translate, there really isn't much for instructions, but I have been using homebrew for quit sometime, so I don't question that it was installed properly.

The coder is clearly some kind of "I run Linux, therefore I know everything about it" script kiddy who assumes that the interface style he's borrowing is unique to Ubuntu. It's not, it's Gnome 2, so this shouldn't even be called an "Ubuntu" shell, but rather a Gnome shell (careful, though, the KDE fanbois might try and mock up their own shell). The thing that screams at me is the "MS EXPLORER" entry which just says to me the kid who slapped this together has really got his head up his own digestive tract.
It's an amateurish attempt to imitate a user interface that is in no way unique to Ubuntu or even GNU/Linux (Gnome in Mac OS X: I've done it...). Kid needs to get his facts straight.
