Ubisoft has finally released an official announcement for their new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.

The game is part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's apparently going to be all original, with no ties whatsoever to the TV series, the comic, or any movie.

The game is going to be a multiplayer brawler (a "four-player action fighting title" says the press release), and Ubisoft is going with Game Arts, one of the studios behind the phenomenally successful Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The game will reportedly feature the same mechanics as Brawl, but it will be health-based instead of percentage-based.

This Wii-exclusive game doesn't seem to have an official title yet (the screenshots that came along with the press release were labeled TMNT Smash Up, though), but there is a target release date of Fall 2009.

Still got the original comic by E&L. My 5yo son loves it.

The last good TMNT games I've played were Turtles in Time and Tournament Fighters... maybe this could be the next great TMNT game after a long while, given that Ubisoft don't botch it up.
