Paladin - Image 1

It seems that some players are still confused regarding what role they should take. Jurisdiction at the WoW Forums asks about his role as a paladin.

The paladin class as we all know is a hybrid class - a cross between tanker and healer. There are a lot of pally types to choose from, aside from the three main builds: Retribution (Heavy Ret or Critadin), Holy (Healadin or Plate Priest and Holydin), and Protection (Tankadin, Holy Tank, and Heavy Tank). Paladins can choose to specialize in tanking, healing and DPS-ing.

The thing is, most players are complaining why paladins can't tank as well as warriors or why they can't deal reasonable damage per second (DPS). Blizzard poster Tseric reasons that it is intended for paladins to place low in terms of damage. He adds that rogues are basically the baseline for this as all classes are supposed to deal lower DPS that rogues. He concludes:

Burst damage and big crits are harder to control and design from a development perspective, due to the number of random or unpredictable elements in any formula. Therefore, crit-based abilities and burst damage tends to see more fine tuning and tweaking than sustainable damage... As far as tanking and healing, the Paladin has been given plenty of tools for healing and threat gain/management.

So, what do you think? Are paladins balanced?
