opportune moment of asshattery? - Image 1Talk about opportunism. According to authorities, a tow truck driver has been charged with stealing a PS3 unit from the scene of a fatal car accident. Worst of all, said truck driver was hired to tow the wreckage away.

Thomas J. Brunell III., 33, admitted to entering the minivan that got into an accident that killed an 11-month old girl, taking away a PS3 console, controller, and one PS2 game from the wreckage:

According to authorities, Philipe Dastine, 21, of Spring Valley was driving the minivan eastbound at milepost 16.1 and lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason. The vehicle left the right side of the road near Exit 15 and overturned, police said.

State police at the Perryville barracks towed the vehicle to headquarters and noticed that the video game equipment reported to belong to its owners was not inside, Detective James Kiernan said.

Brunell has been suspended from his job, pending an investigation.

As for the accident itself, we have one other question. Why would Dastine be hunting for his console when an 11-month old girl carrying his last name just died? The mind boggles.

 » umm..

oo, its regarding the fact that the man inquired about his PS3... umm whats wrong with that..

u guys got sum pretty *****ty writers...

i wouldnt wanna lose a daughter/sister/something ANDD a PS3 all in one day.

and besides obviously the police and insurance question about posessions in the vehicle and ***** to see if their could have been a distraction that caused it, also the insurance company would want to know also.

common sense, why NOT mention the PS3?

I think the writer meant that someone that just lost his daughter wouldn't even be thinking about his lost PS3 because of all the grief....then again...

I find it hard to believe he checked on the PS3 instead of greiving for his lost daughter. Did the PS3 cause the accident in the first place? It says he swerved off the road for an "unknown reason."
Some of these playstation fans are the most horrible people imaginable. "Oh my daughter's dead oh well, now I need to find that bastard that stole my PS3!"
I also hate tow truck drivers that steal stuff.

How old are you... 5? How can you make such idiotic generalizations about a large group based on the action of a single person? I find it ironic that you call yourself "Mr. Common Sense" when common sense seems to be something you are majorly lacking.

Insurance companies ask for possessions in vehicle for their own purposes. You have to name everything you have even things like packages of gum.

I guess I read that wrong (so did qj.)

 » Police procedure

Police will make note of the contents of vehicles, especially at the scene of a fatal accident. When the van was towed back to the station for examination the officers there would have gone over the contents of the vehicle and matched it with the list of contents from the scene, noting that the PS3 and accessories were missing. There's nothing in the original article that says the driver asked about his machine; the author just isn't familiar with police procedure and assumed he was the one that discovered it was missing. I doubt he was able to retrieve anything from the vehicle as it was being examined at the station.

Wow and this wouldn't be any different if it was any other console in the vehicle. If it was a Xbox360 or a Wii, then you would have the same reaction.

Only stupid people say, its all because of a PS3.

If he was going for an Ipod, would anyone think different as well?

The tragedy of this story, is the 11 yr. little girl killed, way too soon in life. Remember her. And quit posting stories like this. I don't care what console it was. A child was killed, in an accident.
