There's no doubt that Apple commercialized the concept of touchscreen technology with the release of their iPhone mobile phones. As a result a lot of developers are thinking of new ways to push this technology to the limits.

A new homebrew application developed by Jahanzeb Serwani now allows you to control your PC's mouse pointer using your iPhone or iPod Touch. Called Touchpad, it basically allows you to use your Apple gadget as a remote... well, touchpad with all the basic features such as clicking, double-clicking and dragging.

To install Touchpad onto your iPhone or iPod Touch, start up your Installer.app and add the following repository to the list: "http://cnp.qlnk.net". You can then find Touchpad from the Utilities category after refreshing your menu.

To make Touchpad compatible with the machine you want to control, make sure to install VNC on it. The developer recommends TightVNC for Windows and Linux users, while Chicken of the VNC works best for Mac users.

If you're curious about how Touchpad works, you can take a look at a video of the nifty homebrew app in action below.
