Toshiba - Image 1A lot of people are expecting that Toshiba will be withdrawing its support from the HD DVD format. However, the company has yet to do so formally and has deferred doing so until it has weighed all of its options. Here's what the company had to say:

The media reported that Toshiba will discontinue its HD DVD business. Toshiba has not made any announcement concerning this. Although Toshiba is currently assessing its business strategies, no decision has been made at this moment.

Considering the huge investment of Toshiba in the HD DVD format, it's not about to make a decision to abandon its investment lightly. However, the longer the company waits the more money it stands to lose.

With the seemingly imminent victory of Blu-Ray, what will Toshiba do to recoup its losses and emerge as one of the market leaders in this format? We'll have to wait and see what the executives from the company come up with.
