Team Wildcard's baby - Image 1Rising quickly among the ranks of the PSP homebrew scene is Team Wildc*rd (or Team Wildcard), known for their work on 3.40 LE custom firmware. Website Exophase had a chat with the team to know more about their philosophies, friends, and woes.

The folks behind Team Wildc*rd got the group together just this July. After Dark_AleX made his farewell, a group of experienced and capable developers decided to take the torch and reverse engineer 3.40 OE firmware. Dark_AleX helped out by indirectly providing the team with 3.10 OE's source code through Mathieulh when the 3.40 OE project was 90% done.

Some would remember Team M33 giving thanks to Wildc*rd for features that appeared on the former's 3.52 M33 firmwares. "We pride ourselves on working alongside M33 rather than against them, and are extremely grateful for their recent support after the source code leak," said Wildc*rd.

When asked why the team is dedicating effort to the development scene, Wildc*rd replied that they'll "continue unlocking the true potential of the PSP until Sony do it themselves." This is in regard to Sony's attempts to keep homebrew out, which is wrong in Wildc*rd's books.

The leak of reversed OE firmware's code generated some buzz and left the team unhappy. "We felt our privacy and security had been completely violated, and considered ending the project," they said. Fortunately for the homebrew scene, Wildc*rd hasn't expressed any desire to retire any time soon. Everyone waiting for 3.52* have their hopes well-placed.

If given a chance to get up close with Sony, Team Wildc*rd wants to suggest a "homebrew SDK and allow usermode homebrew to be loaded." While this will enable homebrew without having to resolve to piracy, the team admits that some people won't be satisfied and simply won't stop looking for exploits.

sw33t. Hopefully Sony unlocks homebrew and make sure the homebrew can't run ISO and crap.

Sony must be the most stupid company in mankind. Itīs common in the industry to hire hackers and crackers who exploit their own systems to let them work for oneself.

We should all be thankful that Sony is to dumb*****ed for that. Otherwise they would hire Dark_Alex+co... they only ones who can really make oficial firmwares that prevents other hackers to exploit them.

Thanks Sony...thanks for your dumb*****ness (my word)

Technically, we wont ever hear if Sony will, or already hired the hackers. For all we know, it could be some brilliant marketing ploy to keep sales up on the PSP but keep the costs of games high since ISOs are around. That would mean more revenue for the direct source instead of 3rd party games

Just an idea though, nothing is concrete in the corporate world ;)

I think sony deliberately placing flaws in there firmwares could be a possibility. They have said they are thinking of allowing homebrew on official firmwares a few times.

 » yeah

haven't you heard sony are wankers,
They will never let a user have full control over the psp, if sony looses there hold, or control over there official firmware they will loose money, and Sony won't stand for that.

   by Brin (Unregistered) - 2007-09-02
 » Eh... no

As you say, the thrill is doing things not currently possible, exploits, stupid pointless random things. Sony will never, and can't really, allow such things.

lol, you guys took his troll bait. First of all, a person who needs something never asks, "What I want to know is". They always say, "I need a downgrader" or "Have they made a downgrader?" Also, look at his "user name". Lol, you guys got owned. Anyhow, try out www.c@shcrate.com/259295 to get some free cash (replace the @ with an A)

It'd be great to see 3.52* since I love your custom recovery and stuff, but I also wouldn't like to use 3.52 M33...

After DA left the seen and took his fantastic OE with him (the at the time the defacto standard or CFW), I've been completely confused and befuddled the firmware and whats been going on in the firmware section.
