Take Two Interactive not giving in to Hollywood's interest in BioShock movie - Image 1Take-Two Interactive's Bioshock (Xbox 360,PC) has been able to reach the summits of gaming fame by being one of the best selling games of 2007. Most of the game's glory owes much to the cinematic setting, characters, music, and not to mention the story.

Because of the what the game was able to accomplish, Hollywood production companies have been making offers to T2 to make a film adaptation of the game.

With this, Surfer Girl posted a rumor circulating the Take-Two Interactive won't simply budge because they want the film to fully stay faithful to the game's story.

The update then is that so far, the company hasn't closed down their doors to the offers, but they're still not ready to sign any deal just yet. Somehow, they're still waiting for something definitive. At least they didn't outright shoot the proposal down, right? We're sure hoping that those involved would come to negotiable terms. We'd love to have Big Daddy debut on the Hollywood screen, wouldn't you?

Well, for us here in QJ, it wouldn't hurt to have a film adaptation of this game. That's why we'll be bringing in more news regarding the developments of this matter.

 » I don't know

on the one hand, BioShock has so many stories within the story it may be very doable. Otoh, if they make a movie of the main plot in the game, I fear a drop in quality and atmosphere in order to force the games plot along. Rarely do you see a movie where the person is alone fighting against all odds (except Die Hard)... So expect him to get a female sidekick, who is completely out of place with a mock love interest. We know it wouldn't work, but hollywood seems to think it's brilliant to use cliche after desperate cliche in game movies.

And yet, how many of those audio recordings would have been an awesome starting place. Imagine being there and watching Rapture fall to pieces and being one of the few survivors who is not a mutant. An atmosphere of dark foreboding, where nobody can be trusted. It could be amazing. Key word, "could".

 » I agree

This is probably why they haven't agreed to do a movie. T2 knows that Hollywood has a tendency to completely screw things up, and probably wants to make damn sure that if they ever say 'yes' to a film that it will be completely faithful. Or at least as faithful as possible to a game as complex as BioShock.

That being said, I would absolutely LOVE to see a movie out of this if they can find the right people.
