Sumo Digital's Sega Superstars Tennis - Image 1The developers from Sumo Digital recently revealed more details about Sega Superstars Tennis for the Wii (also available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS) in an interview by website CVG.

Among the topics discussed include the game's controls, the mini-games, as well as quick but informative explanation on how the superstar powers work.

The way the developers handled the controls in the game is pretty interesting. They took into account the Wii remote's speed and direction in determining the shots. Much like real tennis, a player's timing dictates how good a shot is.

From all indications, Sega fans will have a blast with the mini-games Sumo Digital placed in Sega Superstars Tennis. The developers revealed that the game will contain both a Space Harrier and Puyo Pop Fever ball game:

We have a Space Harrier Ball game, where you'll be trying to hit the classic Space Harrier enemies with your serve, while dodging enemy fire. There's also a Puyo Pop Fever ball game, where you have to clear a wall of Puyos. All the Ball games can be played either in single or multiplayer on the Wii too.

Finally, we have the superstar powers of the characters. For each good return made or point  won, a player charges up the superstar move of their character. When it's fully charged, players can then activate the superstar state.

As expected, each character has its own set of unique abilities in the game. The developers were nice enough to give a concrete example of how powers work:

Let's take Sonic as an example, he transforms into Super Sonic. While he's powered up, you can run faster, hit shots harder - when your opponent returns Super Sonic's shots, they get pushed back out of the court!

So there you have it from the guys at Sumo Digital. This blogger is definitely looking forward to this game's March 18 release date.
