StarCraft 2 is StarCraft MMO? - Image 1How would you feel if we tell you that the newly-confirmed title from Blizzard Entertainment, StarCraft 2, is not going to be a real time strategy (RTS) game just like its predecessor, but an MMORPG one?

We know your heads are reeling right now because most fans feel like StarCraft is StarCraft, the ultimate RTS title of its time. One can't fix what ain't broke. The rumor started from online video game site Computer and Video Games, saying that its "well-placed U.S. sources" have informed them that StarCraft MMO will be revealed at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea.

We don't know about CVG's sources but there is indeed an event in SoKor later this month - Blizzard World Invitational. If we are to believe CVG's report, we should all stop calling the new title StarCraft 2 because it's not a sequel. The site's "well-placed U.S. sources" added that it's going to be an MMo spin-off.

Also, we have to keep in mind that StarCraft already has an installed fan base. What happens now to World of Warcraft (WoW) and the rest of the MMO genre? Two Blizzard title battling it out for the top spot? It may sound like golden chimes to Blizzard but not necessarily for fans.

We guess we have to wait until May 19. En Taro Adun! (Yay for... World of Starcraft! -ed.)

starcraft should stay a RTS and not got MMO. starcraft is one of the bests out there why should they change. If they do make it into and MMO i just hope it kicks WOW ass

I feel compelled to remind everyone that even if Starcraft is MMO, it doesn't mean it will be an RPG.

It's just a rumor you'll know the truth in a couple of weeks.

who knows if it's even a starcraft game, but i guess warcraft was an RTS once. If blizzard is making a RTS it should be SC2, but if it's making another RPG it'd make more sense to use the Diablo world.

But for all we know right now (or at least from what I've heard), It could just be that they're only working on more wow addons.

There are many possibilities and I'm going to wait for something solid before I jump to conclusions. I'm not going to get my hopes up for something I've been waiting on for a decade.

Why even bring this dumba** subject up, if you honestly think blizzard is going to make a mmorpg out of starcraft right as their WoW game is BOOMING than you a complete retard. It wouldn't make sense to draw customers away from your current product into another product. Doing this would defeat the purpose of making the game because profits would be shared between the two of them, and they would only be stealing wow players to come play sc. They dont want to be earning the same amount of money, they want to "PROFIT", their for they will be making it a rts, they are guarenteed to have the best rts at launch, because cc3 has a smaller fanbase than sc.

» Why A Starcraft MMO Would Do Nothing To WoW...

Let's face it, WoW has a fanbase that's immense. If Blizzard released a Starcraft MMO the WoW fanbase would still be??? Yes, immense. Or to view it from another perspective, there are people who play all those rts versions of Warcraft even though Starcraft and it's subsequent Brood came along.

Few stopped playing the Warcraft rts games just to pickup Starcraft. If anything Blizzard is catering to its Starcraft fanbase and many of whom had hopes that they could pull off something with Starcraft: Ghost. I used to play Starcraft until I got hooked on WoW and on more than one occasion I've thought how cool SC would look from the mmo perspective.

IMO... you're either a fan or you're not and people tend to stick to what they know and know well which no doubt contributes to WoW's continual success. There's plenty of MMO action to be had and I think Starcraft is deserving of that treatment. It will not however sound the death knell on WoW.

you guys do know that warcraft was a rts right.... and i think that blizzard catched on that it was popular when it transformed into a mmorpg. So mayb another rts to mmorpg again... =P But would this one be as good as wow?

» rpg rts it doesn't really matter

if you think about it if this turns into a mmorts its going to be fantastic you'll have a reincarnate of Shattered Galaxy which was is an amazing game. or you will have a WoW reincarnate which obviously show success, regardless of the fact that WoW is a bit over-rated in terms of like Everquest or Starwars Galaxies. This game will draw from yes WoW and other mmo's around the virtual world but whomever said that its stupid to do that is in fact stupid. because you're going to have WoW players leaving WoW to play SC whoopity doo.... i guarantee that people will remain active in both acounts and if they dont they will still be in the blizzard franchise, plus it will draw from other games COH EQ and SWG Blizzard can't loose for making this game.

» aparent BETA by end of year

IGN reports a beta for the starcraft game, whether it be RTS or MMO by end of year.
I can see the game being MMO if a beta needs to be done and goes public. MMO's always have betas, RTS games not so much...
