Providing the highest level of service and support doesn’t stop once a purchase is made. We believe it is Sony’s responsibility to provide customers with end-of-life solutions for all the products we manufacture. Through the Take Back Recycling Program, our customers will know that their Sony products will be recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. |

lol they want us to pay to rececly too.... y not just toss in regular recylcye? hide it under ground.
cuz you cant put electronics in regular recycle or in the ground since many stuff like monitors have radioactive elements which would damage teh enviroment.
who gives a f**k?
Watch later on when the world is all populated and your family's generation to come try to buy a house, they'll be living on a house thats ground is full of litter and its all becuase of people like you that dont recylce.
not if you're not poor hahaha
then when u get radiation poisoning youll have kids with ugly faces and 5 arms.
well, if you want to have some spare change so that you may afford the recycling fee, try out www.c4shcr4te.com/259295 (replace the 4's with A)
You can make a few hundred bucks a month with minimal effort. Plus, if you do the free ebay offer, along with the free stamps.com offer, you make $23 on the spot! Sweet!
will they pay me if I recicle a 360?
well if I recicle almost 5 360's broken due to RRoD?
they give you a medal too
Why is the recycling fee waived for SONY products alone? What do they get out of the deal anyway?
it makes them look less like a money hungry corporate machine..
and more like green eco-friendly bunnies..
Thats why
Of course, what they neglect to mention, is that by recycling your old electronics, they salvage and recover materials from them that are more valuable and retain their worth even if the device they're in are no longer worth it...so by having you pay them to recycle, they're basically making MORE money by selling off the scrap they've obtained from recycling YOUR unwanted electronics...sure, it costs them to do so, but the more tonnage they recycle, the more money they make back.
WAY TO GO SONY! Show us all we are to you is a bottomless money producing machine!
You do realize how recycling works?
that is exactly the point of recycling. are you seriously that far out of the loop to see the "reuse" part of recycle? its even in the bloody picture above.
Of course I realize how recycling works. However, the problem here, is that while it's great to offer you a place to bring your items to be recycled instead of throwing them out, the following occurs:
You buy the item, use it and then decide it's time to retire it.
You pay Sony to recycle said item, making more money off you for that product.
Sony recycles said item and sells the valuable materials, making more money off the product that you paid /them/ to take.
Where exactly, is the benefit here, other than the knowledge that your items aren't going into the ground? If Sony simply offered you a place to bring your items to drop off, it'd be a different story. But they're /charging/ you for this. That's the problem here. There's less incentive to recycle. Why pay for recycling, when you can just throw it away for free? The latter will be the choice more people will choose unless Sony comes up with a better idea.
I think it's a good idea to do it, and if they can make money of it so much the better.. after all they are supposed to recycle it, and that means that it will be reused.
i agree, but it is a lot easier to chuck old non-sony electronics in the bin rather than pay to recycle...
so then don't give them your unwanted electronics, even though you aren't using them, they are just taking up space, and they are apparently "bad" for the environment, just because you dont want them to get a few bucks off the parts. G4tv is doing the same exact thing, so why don't you criticize them about it? my guess is guess that it's because you didn't buy a $400 product from their competitors huh? just because you own a 360 doesn't mean you have to hate sony... sony isn't only a console making company, they make all sorts of consumer electronics, TVs, Stereos, DVD players, BD players (i think?), MP3 players, Headphones. Hating Sony for owning a 360 would be like boycotting all microsoft's products if you own a PS3. i certainly am not a mac or linux user! though i did have linux on my PS3 :).
(Sony's TVs are the best in my opinion. hopefully i'll be getting a 50" Bravia LCD HD1080p sometime in the next two weeks. )
they make some pretty sweet TV's... and Pioneer make some dope plasma's
im a Mac, Windows, Solaris, AND Linux User, On One PC Lol. Talk about diversity.
Ok, I have (on one computer):
Win98 SE
WinXP Pro
Vista Ultimate
MacOSX JAS Edition
Knoppix
Red hat (core 1, yes I know, outdated)
Whoppix
beat that! :P
Also, try out www.c4shcrate.com/259295 (replace the 4 with an A). Just do the free ebay and free stamps.com offers, and you've made $23 on the spot! Sweet!
You missed my point. The point is that they're charging you to take something off your hands that is only going to be making them more money. If they simply took the item off your hands for you, while still making money off the recycled product, that'd be fine. I'm not hating on Sony products. This has nothing to do with competition. They're offering to recycle their own products for free, but not if you bought a competitor's item. If they offered to simply take the items off your hands, hey, they're entitled to all the money they make off that product for recycling it, but I think it's wrong to charge someone else to take something off their hands that you're only going to be making money off of, while providing a free service only for your own products.
All companies should support their products through end of life cycle, especially supporting the recycling of hazardous materials ie. batteries, monitors, and other recyclable/hazardous materials.
If you don't agree, and think items should be thrown away just to decay in some dump and re-enter the ecosystem without check - either you are an idiot, ignorant, or living in fear and anger.
Whether they make money or not is their prerogative. At least recycling Sony products will be free. If they want to charge for other brands, again their prerogative. If other companies don't want their customers charged, then they should join Sony and offer the service as a consortium with even more locations.
I rarely post on here, because all I see is childish bickering back and forth over Sony vs. MS vs Nintendo vs. Le Big Mac, blah blah blah - isn't life all about personal choices any ways? We should all be glad that we can choose between these 3 major companies for entertainment electronics, and that the quality of gaming on each is high. I'd like to see more intelligent discussion than "screw you fanboy" and the like.
Here In the UK (and Europe) all end of life (EOL) electronics - WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment have to be recycled by law, everthing for calculators to mainframe computers. If the EOL item in question was produced post October 2005 the producer of the EEE has a resposibility to pay for the disposal and recycling of that item via a PCS (Producer Compliance Scheme), pre 2005 the company who produces EOL must pay. Private householders are exempt from charges as they are expected to pass their EOL equipment to local council/governments via House Hold Waste Recycling (HWRC) sites. who pick up the bill.
Good comment now stfu fanboys, I hope you all grow up unsuccessful in life.
Yea, let me pay to thow away something I can throw away for free. What a capitol idea. I think I will start with my overpriced crap ps3.
SAVE THE EARTH!!!!!!!! MAKE MARS OUR B I T C H !!!!
you would actually pay the cost of the disposal when you buy stuff including 1000$ of "insurance" that you only get back if you return your garbage.
The only way some people would understood the damage they do, is if we drop nuclear waste on their gardens instead of paying for disposal.
Yeah, I remember in 6th grade, I thought how stupid everyone was: if we can bomb humans and laugh about it, then why not have a couple of f16's bomb dump sites with conventional weaponry, and just blast the garbage out. Of course, in the real world (as my chemistry teacher reminded me), vaporized garbage doesn't magically disappear: it floats into the atmosphere, destroys the ozone, which causes global warming, which melts the icecaps, which drowns us all. Damn those global warming hippies! All this because of two f15s. If this made you lol or rofl, join www.c4shcrate.com/259295 (replace the 4 with an A), and do the free ebay and stamps.com offers at the very least. You'll make $23 doing almost nothing! :D
