Sony insider: new 160 GB models, Sony considering pack-in of Dual Shock 3 controller - Image 1

The rumor mill has been abuzz with talks of a new PlayStation 3 console in the works. Speculation has favored the release of a 120-160 GB SKU packaged with a Dual Shock 3 controller to come out this year.

Still, this is mostly speculation. Now a Sony insider talks to GameDaily BIZ about the new PS3 SKU. While this isn't hard evidence of what's to come, we can at least have something to chew on until Sony gives an official announcement.

According to the insider, a new SKU is indeed being planned, but nothing is final yet: "They are considering ways to put some relevant distance between the two PS3 SKUs, but it's unclear how that will roll out."

The insider said that the new SKU will "at least double" the storage space from the 80 GB model so we might indeed see the release of a 160 GB SKU or even one with a higher number. The insider explained that the extra large space is to "recognize the importance of digital distribution and the PlayStation Network."

The insider also mentioned that Sony is "strongly considering" packaging in the Dual Shock 3 controller with the high-end SKU. But what about pricing? The insider said that new pricing is indeed possible. They might even introduce a price cut if they are able to bring production costs down. Hopefully, Sony will release official info soon. Check back for updates.

Such lies. How dumb is that? It includes all that, with NO PS2 Backward Compatibility? From that alone, I know that news is fake. Sony only took the PS2 BC out of the 40GB because they wanted that SKU to be the most open for people who didnt need PS2 BC. The tried to sell more PS3s like that, but more bought the 80GB. So stfu with that fake ass news..

Rumor news is fine. But this isn't rumor news. This was created by QJ and on top of that they have WAY TOO MUCH fake news latley.

Well, I'd give the benefit of the doubt. Pretty much like the Dual Shock 3 "fake" rumor that was also denied by Sony for several months saying that consumers don't care and don't want rumble feature.

Anyway, to stay on the news : NOT AGAIN!!!!! I can't even keep in mind the difference between the 5 different models that came out already.

Card readers, ps2 compability, emotion engine, emulated, hdd, ports...

Do you have a link to a press release where Sony "denied" the rumor? Or did they have "no comment"? The rumor came about because of papers Sony filed. That's not really a rumor more then it is a fact that Sony had a new controller in the works.

The rumors also stated the controller would have a glowing red light for the PS button. When people make up a wild fantasies about every single possible angle then one aspect happens to resemble the actual outcome, that doesn't mean the rumor became true.

It would be pretty dumb of Sony to actually deny the rumble controller when they already gave a press release stating they are working with the same company that sued them.

Fact - Sony started working with Immersion.
Fact - Sony filed papers regarding a new controller.

After that, it's possible Sony could drop the whole thing. So claiming what Sony WILL DO is rumor.

So what does this all mean?

When someone reports that Sony is releasing a new rumble controller with a red light.....that rumor.

When someone reports that Sony filed papers for a new controller and states that we also know Sony is working with Immersion.....THAT'S NEWS!!!!

That was of course THEN. Now we exactly what Sony is doing for a controller.
