Over on the official PlayStation Blog, Atsushi Inaba, producer at SCEA Santa Monica, made a post that translated a Q&A session with the creator of Siren: Blood Curse, Keiichiro Toyama. In it, he discussed what makes a good horror game, as well as what makes Siren: Blood Curse fundamentally different from the previous games in the series. When asked about what makes a good horror game, and how Siren delivers on it, Toyama had this to say: A good horror title has to make the player feel like they are directly involved in the terrifying events taking place, and that requires realism. I think you’ll understand just how much realism can enhance horror when you see Siren Blood Curse. Furthermore, Toyama also teases us with the fact that this game isn't an exact copy of the original Siren. Seeing as it has all-new characters (Western ones, at that!), this game follows a different direction than the original Siren did: Siren: Blood Curse is not a sequel or a standard remake of the other games. Suppose the events of the original SIREN were real, in that case Siren Blood Curse would be like a “movie based on a true story”, adapting and dramatizing the original. While some of the key events bear resemblance to those in the first SIREN, the characters and the background are completely different. He seems to be especially pleased at the inclusion of western characters in this game, saying that: The addition of Western characters who have stumbled into horrific events taking place in a world that is foreign to them helps enhance the feelings of isolation and terror. Seeing as this is a PlayStation Network game that caters to a worldwide audience, the game will be easier to relate to as well, and being able to relate to the reality behind all the horrific events in Siren: Blood Curse will make the game that much more terrifying. If you'd like to see the full Q&A, feel free to check out the source linked below. Don't forget that there's also a demo out on the Japanese PSN, so you can grab that if you want to experience a bit of Siren for yourself. |
