Snow in downtown LA - Image 1What? Snow in LA? In May? Fortunately, we're not talking about cold flakes of ice. We're talking about three huge Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360) posters in downtown LA, one of which shows the face of Snow.

One thing to note about his poster though, other than it might get gamers in car accidents down Olympic Boulevard, is that it reads the release margin for Final Fantasy XIII - coming 2010.

The other two billboards show the FFXIII girls, Lightning and Vanilla. There's no sign of Sazh Katzroy, but the main point of having them up there isn't about showing little Chocobos nesting in afros - it's to let the Western world know that the faint hopes of a 2009 release for Final Fantasy XIII are officially dashed. So if three 124-foot ads aren't confirmation enough for you, you're seriously in denial.

As far as the Japanese are concerned, they can bank their hopes on the Square Enix rep who said, "I'll try." The fourth quarter of the 2009 fiscal year ends in September 2009, so they have four months left to deliver on that little encouragement.

The posters are now plastered over what used to be a GTA Chinatown Wars ad. If you want to see them, they're at South Figueroa St. at Olympic Boulevard, right next to the Staples Center. You should go see it the next time the Lakers host the Nuggets on May 27th. It's a little hard to miss from there.

 » ok...

I don't see the point in promoting a game that doesn't even have a release date

It's called more hyping for FFXIII and since it's considered the next best FF since...... X which is like 10 years ago? Pretty big deal.

No matter how good the game is the characters still look like crap. BTW they have no need to hype FFXIII because people will buy it anyways. I think Squeenix is just wasting money on promoting their only game that everyone knows(even those that don't play RPG).

The characters look amazing!! Sure, they may not be as good as older characters(which i don't, these look awesome) but lets see if you can do better?

a total waste of money, this game isn't even coming out till at least summer 2010 which means this ad is a whole year early, by then everyone will have forgot this ad, also look at gta chinatown wars, this ad did wonders for them didn't it?

It was to let people know that its not going to be released in 2009, which some people started the rumor in hopes it would...Sorry to crush your dreams fanboys(although I love ff myself)

To be honest. I couldn't handle FFXIII this year, way too many games coming out this year that require my attention. 2010 is good because its not as far off as people were dreading but thats not to say the release date might be Dec 31 2010 lol. Either way hope they get the wheels turning faster and get the game out by summer or fall.

Also, I thought the FFXII characters looked like crap at first. But then I played the game. I think these characters look cool already so thats a good sign in my case, if you don't like how they look then too bad for you I guess.
