While it's not a good World Cup year for English and Brazilian football fans, we can all take comfort in Codemaster's plan to launch Sensible World Of Soccer (SWOS) on the Xbox Live Arcade. The game, which was released in 1994, features a 20-season career mode which allowed players to choose footballers from a thousand different football clubs. It attempted to encompass the entire football world into one game, hence the cult-following. It's probably for this reason that Codemasters is keen on resurrecting SWOS.

The company originally planned to include the Amiga version of SWOS as an unlockable aspect of Sensible Soccer 2006 on PC, Xbox, and PS2. When that didn't pan out, Codemasters then set its eyes on making the title available on Xbox Live Arcade.

According to a virgin.net source, "Codemasters is constantly evaluating the opportunities offered by its back catalogue. There's a lot of IP there that's dear to gamers' hearts, and we wouldn't rule out anything if we thought the time was right. Ultimately that will come down to demand among games players and what we think will work on that platform. Having just shipped Sensible Soccer 2006 on PC, Xbox and PS2, it's clear that there's still a great affection for the series and that's encouraging.
