Final Fantasy 13 - Image 1This week's issue of V-Jump also has their very own coverage on Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360).

Just like what we saw earlier this week on Famitsu, it's got Pigtailed Girl's real name (next to Snow Villiers, she's the second FF13 character to have her full name spelled out: Oerba Dia Vanille) and some screens of the battle system.

While some of the screens look recycled from other scans and trailers, one of the scans shows a bit more of the in-game battles. It looks like FF13 is following the same route as FF12, with its Active Time/Dimension Battle action gameplay.

Enemies are visible on the map, and there won't be "random" encounters: from the looks of things, it still depends on whether you or the enemy will engage in battle.

That's not the only thing they're borrowing from FF12 though. As seen in other scans before, note the white-armored baddie in one of the screens. It still looks very much like a Judge straight out of FF12.

 » Wow

I gotta say I'm very pleased with Square Enix and what they've done with their games. Besides the fact that this game looks really cool (I'm more eager for Versus though) , but Dissidia is also the best game to have ever been created XD (Not even by PSP standards, by gaming standards in general, which is awesome!!)

Good Job Square Enix. You have pleased a fan :D

Don't own a next gen system lol. But I heard some not-so-great things about those games though...how are they?

   Re: DNAgent - 2008-12-21
 » They are garbage...

Much like all the other games Square-Enix have made this gen (handheld games by them seem to be an exception). This is why FF13 will end up being mediocre (despite fanboys hoping it isn't). Then again, this game just reminds me of FFX-2 and that's not a good thing so I think FF13 will be the worst FF game ever (as far as the numbered games in the series go). FFX-2, FF11, + FF12 were all garbage and FF13 won't change anything. FF games are like Sonic games. They were good in the past but now they are garbage. Luckly, I won't even care about this since White Knight Chronicles will be coming out (as well as much better PS3 exclusives).

I'm probably going to get a reply telling me that I know nothing of Final Fantasy Games. lol

Square made a mistake with the battle system in Final Fantasy XII, I personlly hated it. XIII should have gone back to Traditional Turn based, they should have refined it more and added to it. Not necessary radom battles but that of chrono cross persona 4. I found FF XII battle system boring and played out. I really did have high hopes for this game but I am now having doubts.

How you can say Dissida is the best game ever is beyond me lol. Yes i have played it

   Re: Gameeye2 - 2008-12-22
 » Oh Well..

That Sucks lmao... But looking back I have noticed that all the legendary FF games were made back when Square was just Squaresoft.. After the merge with Enix is when I noticed a lot of people complaining about quality loss in their games... What a shame :( But eh.. wutcha gonna do..

Oh and my comment on Dissidia was just an exaggeration lol.

And to DNA, your comment made me want to go play Sonic Adventure lol (which in my eyes IS the best game ever, for nostalgic reasons of course, so I can't help it >_>)

BTW, Sonic Adventure came out on the DREAMCAST FIRST! and NOT the Gamecube!!.... Srry I just hate it when people say that Gamecube had it first...

But if you think about it, Square may actually only be good at making Final Fantasy games. Because we all know their story of how they almost went out of business then in a last ditch attempt made Final Fantasy, Which just happened to become popular. They then just built off that success and kept on adding to the series. So maybe they just suck at making anything non-Final Fantasy? lol... But of course Chrono Trigger disproves that so... eh...

" I think FF13 will be the worst FF game ever (as far as the numbered games in the series go). FFX-2, FF11, + FF12 were all garbage and FF13 won't change anything"
This comment is so stupid it almost doesn't deserve a response, but what the heck, I'm bored today.

To say that FFXIII will be the worst game ever shows your inherent dislike for the FF franchise as a whole. As such your opinion carries zero weight on this topic. I suggest you go play something that better suits your level of maturity(Hint: stick to games GTA or Clive Barker's Jerico and steer clear of anything by Team Ico)

For those even who have long followed the series I am somewhat disappointed that so many complain about FFXI and FFXII.

My guess is that most people that complain about FFXI have either barely scratched the surface of it before they quit, or they haven't played it at all. As someone that plays it to this day I can attest to the amazing storyline(s) and incredible scope of the game. It is Final Fantasy through and through and one of the best.

On the topic of 12..Like it or not, FFXII was an artistic masterpiece. The battle system was a radical departure from FFX, but an evolutionary next step from FFXI. The story was rich, serious and full of subtlety (which again is a radical departure from the obvious and at times cheesy storyline in FFX). Put simply, FFXII is a truly mature and much more realistic Final Fantasy. As one of Yasumi Matsuno's works it that carries the same depth, intrigue and class that he brought to cult favorites FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Ogre battle.

I have high hopes for both FFXIII and VersusXIII. I have no doubt in my mind they will be better than the true weakest link in the ff chain (FFII).

Oh and Dissidia is fantastic, a must buy for any fan of the FF series.

@buzzkill3r: You know how a person like you is called? a FANBOY. Yes you are a fanboy of Final Fantasy. To say that FF12 was an artistic masterpiece shows exactly that. FF12 was garbage. Sure, there will be people who like it but the majority didn't like it. Just like FF11. That was a pathetic attempt to copy WoW in the FF universe. Gameye2 stated the facts. Since Square merged with Enix everything went downhill. they simply lost their values they once had. Quality, uniqueness and fresh ideas are just history for them now. Me as FF fan (notice fan NOT FANBOY) hurts that.
But I'm not blind and consider every game as a great title. Most of their current games just plain and simply suck. And making games multiplatform won't help it, either. More like downgrading games even further.
Making FF13 multiplatform WILL decrease the quality of it, wether they deny it or not. Microsoft wants money for every DVD you nned for a game. Guess how many DVD Squeenix will need if the game is 50 GB big? Around EIGHT DVDs. A Dual-Layer can hold 8,5 GB of Data, but on one Xbox360 DVD you can only press max. 6,8 GB of data, because the rest is needed for security and information data for the console. 8 DVDs will surely be expensive for Square-Enix. I'm pretty sure they will decide to cut some data to fit it on less DVDs, meaning the PS3 version will also get less data, meaning the game willl be worse. They surely won't give the PS3 a superior version.

I don't think this game will be that bad but them that's just me hoping. 12 wasn't that bad since I don't play MMO I thought it was unique but not FF like. Here's what I know though for those that hate on this game will probably get it on release because there aren't any other RPG's out there.

IU and LR do suck. What the hell happened to all the good RPG's during Playstation and N64 era?:*(

 » ughh..

If SE can put out a game like Last Remnant, calling it the wonderful result of working on the "easy to program for" Xbox360(mind you this is not a jab at the 360), I don't know if I can have high hopes for anything they put out. Look at their recent track record: Project Sylpheed, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant. I mean come on! What the hell happened to quality control?

   Re: kamanashi - 2008-12-22
 » Don't worry.

I don't think XIII will suck. Yes, they have put out some not so great games lately, but that is the smaller teams making those. FF typically has much larger, more devoted teams when it comes to the next iteration. SO, I stil have high hopes for FF XIII. Just, which console to get it on will depend on reviews.

   Re: RyutsukeMurakami - 2008-12-22
» I do hope you know the real reason.

LR was supposably for PS3 but M$ here decided to have a secret meeting with S-E paying them a huge sum of $ for S-E to make a few games for the 360. I can't really blame the developers for this turn of event, they were practically forced into making this game. Easier to program? Yeah totally! Do it fast and sloppy is the way to go.

» You know what I think!

Most of you that dislike FF really shouldn't even be clicking on the FF labeled news, nonetheless reading it or even playing it. You don't like it think that changes anything?

I don't even know why I'm typing this dam comment.

I for one played all of the FF I-XII and yes even XI and X-2. As for XII I just don't see where all the hate came from. S-E said "so many times" to be exact in interviews they were experimenting with the ATB, and were trying to evolve from the traditional turn based.

On the other hand most of you kids even complained about the turn-base ATB style in White Knight Chronicles. It amazes me how uneducated kids spend some much time whining.

Oh and don't comment me back! Cause I won't have time to continue this discussion. I have other things I much rather do.

 » For whatever it's worth....

I liked FFXII but I have to admit....it did get a little boring, but that's probably because I'm working on filling up my license grid and getting all the espers and getting to a respectable level so I can whip Vayne's ass with ease... (Level 45 team at the moment)

I didn't play FFXI simply for the fact that I'm against P2P MMORPG's...

As for FFXIII, I like the looks of it to be honest....but I am slightly worried about the whole multi-platform situation because as mentioned before, it will inevitably force the game to lose its quality in order to cater for the lower technical specs of the XBox 360..to what degree, we'll only know when the game comes out...
