Satoru Iwata - Image 1Now, who would have thought it?

According to the German gaming site GameFront, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun has released a report about a press conference which has just been held by Nintendo. As most press conferences go, the Nintendo officials spoke about upcoming game titles, the financial gains of the company, movements and plans in general. However, one simple statement from Nintendo President Satoru Iwata made the event a whole lot more exciting.

According to the Japanese newspaper, Iwata stated that they "would love to see Kutaragi join up with Nintendo".

Now, this may generate a lot of reactions, but then again, how this will all develop would be nothing short of interesting. After all, Kutaragi's honorary position at Sony isn't exactly a very active office, and The Father of Playstation has also stated in recent interviews that his next ventures would mostly be independent from Sony, so there MAY be a good chance that he'll take Nintendo up on his offer. After all, it cannot be denied that Kutaragi has a long history with Nintendo, since he IS the guy who gave the SNES the gift of sound, via the SPC700 chip which he designed.

However, considering the fact that Kutaragi was also once badly slighted by Iwata's predecessors (think: Hiroshi Yamauchi, CES 1989, and a botched Play Station announcement... note the space in between "Play Station"), one can't really tell what Crazy Ken will do next.

 » Its Cuhz

They want him cuhz he is a good engineer. I doubt this he will go to Nintendo seeing he loves Sony and his creation the Playstation. If somehow he does go he will give Nintendo the hardware they need to compete and crazy things he does with it.

 » Didn't he left Sony

Was there a news about him leaving Sony?
   by Nark (Unregistered) - 2007-04-28
 » Maybe, but...

I would be pretty surprised if his contract didn't forbid him from working for Sony's direct competition for a certain period of time (five years is a pretty common figure for such clauses). On the other hand, since Sony let him go rather than him stepping down of his own volition, that may not apply in this circumstance.

 » True

Yes, many tech enterprises have this kind of clauses. I formerly worked at nvidia as an intern and they made me sign a contract that forbid me to work in a competing company like ATI for the next 3 years.

the PS3 DOES have an internal clock, and since the 4th Dimension is "time," then...Kutaragi was right!

» The 4D and other comments are just hyperbole...

I don't know why fanboys get so upset by over enthusiastic marketing speak. Relax... sure he can be proud and arrogant at times, but it's really only a few comments we've heard here and there from time to time... sheesh, does the press and everyone just love catchphrases or what?

Anyway Nintendo and the entire industry do owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his work on the SNES and for risking his career to pioneer the groundbreaking PSOne, the insanely popular PS2 and with the PSP living up to expectations with amazing games and multimedia capabilities and the cutting edge PS3 that's still in its infancy and whose success is yet to be seen...

LMAO at above comment........wtf!

 » Hahem...

Even though Kutaragi's retiring, which ain't actually true, he's still working at Sony as Senior technical advisor -something like that- and he's still part of Sony Computer's board of directors...

Moreover Kutaragi's Cellius CEO (Cellius is Sony+Namco)...

So I don't think the day one will see Kutaragi's name in Nintendo credits is near...

"Microsoft- Bill Gates

Are you joking when you include Iwata on that list?

You only have to look at the man's record - he's an incredible businessman and a highly creative individual. Don't forget that DS and Wii were largely developed under his watch.

I think ultimately he may be credited with returning Nintendo to industry leadership. That is certainly no small feat.

» You'd have to be stupid to think they wouldn't want him.

In the same way, Sony and Microsoft would want Miyamoto if he was to leave Nintendo. Or Sony and Nintendo would want, erm, some big guy from Microsoft if one was to leave. (Can't think of a decent one, sorry.)

It's not just some exclusive thing for kutaragi, all of the big three would do whatever they could to get the big names in the industry working for them.
