Samsung presents 70-inch Full-HD LCD TV with dimmer - Image 1

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd was proud to announce its largest commercially available HD LCD TV (a whopping 70 inches!), which incorporates Samsung's Local Dimming Technology for selective LED backlighting. The feature differentiates the new model from conventional HD LCD TVs which use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (or CCFLs) to illuminate the screen from behind.

The new LED scanning technique allows the monster LCD TV to boast flicker-less viewing by rapidly shutting off individual LED lights behind the screen. Ghosting and flicker issues are often associated with CCFL-lighting in larger LCD TVs, hindering the quality of video that's sought for in high definition LCD sets.

The added effect of the technology allows some dark-rendered scenes to be uniquely darker, as the switching of and on of LED lights behind the screen offers a viewing contrast ratio of 500,000:1. Another added effect is that the LDC TVs overall power consumption is lowered by as much as 50%.

The unit also comes in glossy "piano black" bezel with chrome titanium trims to meld sturdiness with elegance, while dual hidden speakers and a rear subwoofer were also incorporated deliver the best in sound. Samsung hopes to release the unit into the global market by the second half of this year.
