A new trailer for THQ's Saints Row 2(PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) has caught the attention of a lot of people as of late with its unusually aggressive tone. The ad seemed to take pot shots at Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV(Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) with its comparison of activities players can engage in within the two games.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, watching the video below will help you understand what we mean.

The trailer drove Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey to comment that Saints Row 2 was being "pompous" with their marketing style. He pointed out that GTA4 is set to officially become the biggest selling game in a single week and is also the highest-rated title for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in aggregate review sites such as Metacritic and Gamerankings.

Hickey added that Saints Row 2 is by comparison a title with "conservative" sales expectations. It's set to debut on the 14th of October in the US on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

 » huh?

Uh... can someone explain to me the part of the ad that disses GTA4?

 » GTA4 dissing

I think it was directly dissing GTA4 in one of its previous trailers, where they made fun of the whole bowling and chauffeur aspect of the game. It should also be on GameTrailers, IIRC.

 » WTF

Anybody else pause it while that rapid text flew by?

It says stuff like "If you're too lame to do things like go outside and shoot people in the face" and "This game is good, BUY IT".

"Still reading? Good god! You have no life. Buy this game. It's really good. Really good. I mean... If you're to lame to go out into the world and shoot people in the face, steal their car and run over an old woman, who probably deserves what she gets, because of things she's done in her past... Then you may as well go down to your local game store, and lay down the cash big baller. That's you. I'm calling you a big baller. Are you really a big baller? The answer to that question, simply is, no. No you are not. So go buy the game, and pretend you're a big baller. A big baller who has access to a rocket launcher, bazooka type deal called the Annihilator. Blow stuff up. Have a blast! Ha! Get it? Blast? Who's the bigger loser now? The answer to that question is, me. Sike again! It's still you. Bummer man. :("

Pretty bad when a professional company doesn't know how to spell "psyche".

And even at that link it lists "sike" as an intentional misspelling of "psych".

And now they're getting attention and free advertising. Whether or not it's pompous or accurate, taking on the big guy always gets attention.

They made the right move and will sell more copies just on curiosity alone.

 » haha to funny

The only thing this game does is give you a alternative to GTA. It actually promoted GTA when they were making. I dont see where it disses GTA.

 » Who are they kidding

That game looks like ***** compared to GTA4.
Did you see the way the characters move, I bet they're using unreal engine they didn't even bother updating the player animations from the base product, they look like they've got an arm stiff as a board while running with guns.
Blah video games moved on from this years ago, even GTA3 had more realistic moving characters.

This game is well....crapola. Interestingly enought its going on the PS3 though. I bet we see more GTA style games in the future becuase of all the records it broke on its rls.

 » This game is crap

GTA IV has a meaning, it's about the American Dream and Revenge, it's also a great parody of our culture, and a game with a great story line. It's not just a bunch of crazy random crap that you can do in an open world. GTA IV is about survival, not about becoming a powerful gangsta or some crap like that. I think a lot of five year-olds will enjoy Saint's Row 2, but GTA IV is for people mature and smart enough to enjoy great gameplay mechanics and an immersive story.
