RuneScape HD - Artwork - zombies

With the beta run for RuneScape HD alive and kicking, some subscribers have already thrown the devs at Jagex Ltd a bone to work with. With the feedback from the users, the team aims to release a lot of changes such as graphical improvements for when HD goes out of beta.

Meanwhile, a lot of people have also sent in questions about running the game. Apparently, some users have already encountered compatibility issues with their own PC units at home. So, the team has updated their RuneScape HD FAQ with a couple more common questions asked.

It goes without saying that if you got problems trying to run RunesScape HD, you might want to take a look at the answers below, and maybe it could solve your problems.

Q: I am getting a black screen which says that my graphics card is not good enough, but I know it is good enough and I have updated to the latest drivers. What can I do?

A: We have noticed a number of posts in regards to checking the status of the hardware acceleration on your machines. Please take a second to follow the below steps to make sure that you have this option enabled.

  1. In Windows, right-click on your desktop
  2. Select "Settings" and then "Advanced"
  3. Now select the tab named "Troubleshoot"
  4. You will see a slider that is labeled as "Hardware acceleration". Make sure that this slider is all the way over to "Full". If you set it to none then the game will think that you don't have a hardware card at all

Additionally

If you are starting up the game in a window and the window is even slightly off the screen (or minimised) then it will not be able to retrieve the capabilities of your graphics card. As a precaution, make sure that your web browser window is maximised or at least completely on the screen when starting the game up.

Q: My computer seems to be encountering hardware conflicts, what should I do?

A: To check whether there are any conflicts with your computer's hardware, please go to the following:

  1. Start > Settings > Control Panel > System
  2. Within the “System window, select the tab entitled “Hardware”
  3. Select “Device Manager”
  4. Look for hardware conflicts and update drivers where required
  5. If you are unable to resolve the issue, please contact the manufacturer

Q: I am receiving the following error message: "Error_loader_savefile - Unable to save to cache".

A: To check whether there are any conflicts with your computer's hardware, please go to the following:

  1. Go to the Home page for RuneScape
  2. Click on the "Downloads and Wallpapers" option under the "Community" drop-down menu
  3. Under the "Windows Client" section, download the RuneScape desktop application

Launch RuneScape directly from your desktop, without all that browser clutter. This is particularly useful for low-memory or low-resolution machines. This requires Internet Explorer 6 or above.
