E3 Expo - Image 1

Rumors and leaks are running rampant once again on Twitter. Heard via GameZine and TheSixthAxis, it looks like someone's feeling generous with Microsoft's planned E3 2009 line-up.

The big MS has surely been rather tight-lipped about game announcements this year, and while we could expect certain few games to pop up in E3 (Alan Wake pls!), there's one sore thumb sticking out for PS3 fanboys and it goes by the acronym of MGS.

Taken from one GameFork's tweeting over the past couple days, here are the big things Microsoft will be dropping during the event:
  • Xbox Fluid - the new 360 motion-sensing camera
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction
  • Halo ODST
  • Alan Wake
  • APB
  • GTA4: BAAFLC
  • "Richter"
  • Assassin's Creed 2
  • Lost Planet 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide
Yes, that last bit's intriguing - what is it? Well, whatever it is, GameFork insists it's going to be MS' press-con finale. They're making such a big deal out of it even that they've cut down some time for other games:

For the questions about MGS+O being show finale: Konami will announce a 360 exclusive (NOBODY outside of Kon has been told what this is). After that they announce MGS4+O as a 360 exclusive. MS have also cut LostPlan2, AssCreed2, Bioshock 2, GTA.BAAFLC, to 3 min slots.

There's also that "Richter" game, which seems to be Peter Molyneux's latest game - the one that may-or-may-not-be Fable 3. And that APB (which I believe is the so-called All Points Bulletin, revealed ages ago) is something GameFork insists could potentially be a GTA-killer. Speaking of GTA, there's that GTA:BAAFLC, which I think could be the next DLC.

Quite a big beefy batch of rumors... it's so absurd, it's actually amazing someone could have such an imagination. Which leaves us with that one question: if it's too far out beyond imagination, could there actually be truth behind it?

Remember, folks! Microsoft's press conference is on June 1! Let's see if we can hear some response from MS about this leaked lineup before then.

 » Hmmm

I wont be buying MGS again unless it has a lot of new stuff...

As for the list, doesn't it seem rather small?

I was expecting 20+ games...

 » yea

maybe someone was just bored with the lack of gaming news so they deicded to make it up. The list is really short and nothing big to wow us which im expecting june 1st like hey new zelda game finally coming out woohoo.

 » I'm calling BS.

But I'll wait to see what happens.
I mean, every product seen in that game was either Apple or Sony, both of which are MS's biggest competitors. There are the scenes in the game that refer back to the PS1, the entire Psycho/Screaming Mantis fight would have to be messed with...
Not to mention as well as changing the format would be odd, going from Blu-Ray to DVD-9 would cause them to have to compress the audio, textures...
Plus Kojima's constant assurance that there would be no MGS4 for 360...I'm skeptical.

 » Hmmm

But this is not MGS4, its MGS4 0X!D3 lulz.

   Re: papajag - 2009-05-11
 » ...

Not to mention that Otacon sort of disses the swap disc with the dual layer Blu-ray comment. Oh I get it they're going to cut out the scenes with all the product placement so that they can fit it in 4 DVD9.

I'm sort of a hypocrite considering that I do have a 360 and love the damn thing. It's just that MGS is always Sony. And the whole multi disc is stupid. I'd love to see the real MS lineup though.

 » Just occurred to me...

Whoever this GameFork guy is, maybe he's just using "MGS4" as a placeholder title. Maybe due to habit of spelling it out? I dunno.

Here's my two cents tho. I'm thinking the actual title could simply be Metal Gear Oxide. Kinda like Metal Gear Acid.

Get it? Acid? Oxide?

Both are chemical compounds etc etc. /Shrug. This so-called MGS Oxide could follow the MGS Acid format.

But if it does follow that kinda gameplay, it's kinda weird that MS will be making a card-based game as their big finale for a show. I mean, yeah, MGS is a huge deal... but why make it (a third party to Microsoft) their finale?

» yep, def BS, but succesful troll is succesful

If you check down near the bottom of his blog, there are some questionable entries, like

"Been asked on my real twitt to provide A.W and A.P.B E3 proof. Damn you pesky meddlers! Check back 2nite 'bout 8ish for something special ;)"

"Its coming, Its coming!!"

"I'd upload a shot of the E3 lineup but im just too damned into this!! Maybe a little later. Sorry!! :("

And then of course he never posts it, that was from a few days ago. Because he doesn't have any proof. Also lol @ "review copy" of APB, the game may not be out till 2010, there are no "review copies" in existence.

This guy just took a few things that don't take an imagination to guess they'll be at E3 then threw in a bunch of crap to make himself look cool and get newsposts on sites like this. All these sites are just feeding this troll

of course is BS...first off...they already said in the rumor that konami hasn't confirmed nothing, also...MGS4 + Oxide?...srly? is that the best name poeple could come up with? no other site has this $hit and...not even kotaku who is full of rumors even worst than qj or anywhere else

Is it just me that cant help thinking that he was ment to write MgSO4 (magnesium sulphate :D) Instead of MGS4+O. It looks like its an symbol equation :s Geeky moments over now :P

 » yeah

I'm not buying it either, I also don't think they would show gta dlc this soon because of how long it took them to make the first one, but I do think they'll announce the lost and damned for ps3

   Re: phiyuku - 2009-05-11
» lost and the damned was paid for

by Microsoft at the cost of 50,000,000 and I doubt it would be such a short time exclusive if a time exclusive at all. At 50 mil I would ask for a lifetime exclusive.

   Re: jrsmaster411 - 2009-05-11
 » actually

that's a common misconception, they didn't actually pay 50 mill, they gave rockstar a 50 mil advance payment, so if the dlc doesn't make that much money they have to pay back the difference. From what I've heard the exclusive time is 6 months and will most likely be out around Christmas

 » *sigh*

im also calling BS on this, i seriously hope that after MGS4 isnt confirmed for the 360 at E3 this year, the 360 fanboy who keeps spreading this same old rumour grows some balls and buys a PS3

   by thefinalhero - 2009-05-11
 » On second thought...

This could end up being like Metal Gear Solid 4 Touch or whatever it is where it carries the MGS name but the game play is different.

could be an arcade version or something, i dont see why that isnt possible.

It says Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide.... not Metal Gear Solid 4 Oxide. The difference being the "+". So just like Portable Ops+, this would be MGS4 with extra content. So wether it is fake or not, I would still buy it even though I already have the LE version of MGS4 for the PS3.

   Re: Vman00 - 2009-05-11
 » that thought

really bugs me. why would hideo make MGS4 for xbox when he pretty much said it was impossible for it to be on the xbox. and whats up with this Oxide crap? it doesn't seem right to give the game extra content without it being released for the ps3. what can possibly be added to make MGS4 even more awesome than adding -ENE/-EME expansions? it could be some sort of mini-game where you have to find little metal gears hidding around.

   Re: HIDEO KOJIMA - 2009-05-11
 » !

Well I'm sure this has happened many times, a dev saying something will never happen, which then does eventually happen.

As for adding new content straight to the 360 instead of the PS3 first has happened. An example is Ninja Gaiden 1 (xbox) and 2 (360). NInja Gaiden 2 came out on the 360 first, now it is being rereleased with new content on the PS3. There is also MGS2 appearing on the PS2 and then MGS2:S appearing on the Xbox a few months before the PS2 and PC. So if the news about MGS4+O is true, you can expect it to be on the PS3 as well, with the 360 getting a timed exclusive.

   Re: fearlubu - 2009-05-12
 » bu but.....

kojima would NEVER do timed exclusives......

   Re: thefinalhero - 2009-05-12
» Metal Gear Solid 4 with Extra Content on the 360?

That makes no sense to me. I can't think of what could possibly added and be unaffected by disk format restraints. Metaphorically MGS for Blu Ray ended up being like fitting a square peg in a circle hole, they had to cut some stuff, but were able to do it. So doing the same for the 360 would be like fitting that same square peg in a hole the size of a quarter.
I mean even if it did come full version on the 6 or whatever disks that people say it would take do people think that a 6 disk game will still only cost them 60 bucks? Can you imagine how thick that game case would be?

   Re: HIDEO KOJIMA - 2009-05-12
 » @ fearlubu

Well apparently he (or I...) did with Substance being a timed exclusive on the XBox for 3-4 months.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2009-05-12
 » ...

Kojima does not run Konami....so I highly doubt it is even up to him whether or not it stays exclusive.

I'm actuallying interested in seeing MGS4 on 360, i'd like to see if they are able to pull it off in 720p, let alone 1080p....also curious how many discs it would be.

 » They aren't PS3 Fanboys

They're MGS fanboys and they know if it comes out on the 360 it's going to be lowered audio, shortened cutscenes, the online play will have to be downloaded separately, not to mention you'd have to pay to play it and if not then it'll have to be on like 3 DVD-DL's and you'll have to remember which one the online is on. AND they'd have to take out the joke that they make in the game.

"Alright Snake, it's time to change to the second disc"
"Oh wait, I forgot, we're on Blu-Ray now. We don't have to worry about that anymore"
"...Geez, what will they think of next."

God bless Hideo Kojima

However, I do agree with whoever said that it's probably just a typo it most likely is MGS Oxide, which might just be a 360 exclusive and thats why they'll be keeping it for last, to rub in Sony's face that they get an exclusive Kojima game.

   by xXxZEROxXx - 2009-05-13
 » hmm

That would be awesome for MGS to come to the 360, but shoot we'll just have to wait til June 2-4 to see if thats true. Also if it does, that will save me some money so I don't have to buy a PS3

   by Thinker - 2009-05-13
 » Hmmm

So let me see if I understand this correctly: Microsoft's showstopper and grand finale is a port of a year-old game that was (supposedly) exclusive to another platform?
