Looks like Sub Zero cannot do this to Batman in Mortal vs DC Universe - Image 1The Latin term "sine qua non" refers to "(a condition) without which it could not be." In other words, it's something without which another thing can't exist.

If you think that fatalities are sine qua non for Midway Games's Mortal Kombat, you may want to think again. Fatalities will reportedly be absent in the crossover title Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

That's not all, though. The rather gratuitous amount of blood present in previous Mortal Kombat games will purportedly be toned down to the point where there will be little-to-no amounts of it. Believe us when we say we're as baffled as you are.

Nevertheless, these tidbits came from a former Midway Games employee who worked on the game. The said employee reportedly contacted Kotaku and mentioned what the violence level in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe would be like.

Given the watered down effects we've described above, including the words Mortal Kombat in the title seems to be a contradiction in terms. Nevertheless, we're keeping our eyes peeled on Midway's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Watch this space for more info on the next installment of the series.

As soon as I read "no fatalities," I thought, "Bull *****."

» it had to be done

they dont want to cheat the younger DC fans out of being able to play the crossover

BORING!

 » Doesn't make sense...

If I'm not going to see a spine, or some impalements, or even a person getting ground up into a very fine paste...

...then take the MK name off of it... because that is just not right.

 » Agree and

DC has brutally killed off or maimed so many characters I don't understand why they'd need to dumb it down for the kiddies. DC isn't doing Golden Age fluff too much anymore.

... no bloodshed + no buy

Agreed, keep in mind this is supposedly a rumor. No offense, but Mortal Kombat couldn't make it alone as a fighter. Could it back then? Yes, definitely. To this day I prefer the old school MK over the new stuff. But even so, look at all the other great fighters, Tekken, Soul Caliber, Dead or Alive, they exist because of awesome fighting mechanics and interesting characters. Since the new MK is taking out most of the old school characters and replacing them, and IF they take out the blood and fatalities, it just wouldn't make it not only as a fighter, but as Mortal Kombat.

 » guys come on now.

It's going to have a blood code, just like the sega genesis version: A B A C A B B

   Re: ThrashWolf - 2008-04-18
 » But

if this rumour's, we might, MIGHT get blood, thanks to a blood code. But no fatalities...
I don't believe that Midway would scew over MK that badly, they know half the reason the fans play it is for the blood and fatalities, but if it is, I won't be buying. simple as that.

   Re: Binary - 2008-04-18
 » lol

I still remember how to do fatalities on sega.

 » What?!

Mortal Kombat with no blood? I do hope they reconsider...I mean, if they're doing it for the kids then that's a lame excuse...I have "A Death in the Family" comic sitting here and...Yep....The Joker is beating the snot out of Robin with a blood wet crowbar...

Isnt it only for the MK vs. DC? u know i doubt they would do that to Regular MK games like Deadly Alliance/Deception/Armageddon, BTW, By DC do they mean Batman/Superman etc.??

You can't have MK without blood/fatalities. You just can't.

I don't think the *****ty gameplay of mortal kombat can hold up to having all the things that were even somewhat good about it removed in exchange for some *****ty superheroes no one cares about.
If this is true this game is going to flop hard.
