Rumor confirmed: Apple announces new MacBook, MacBook Pro models - Image 1

Apple Inc. has made it known via press wire that the next generation of MacBooks and MacBook Pros are now available for order via their official website. The official announcement also bannered the fact that larger Pro versions of the 2008 SKUs sport the previously confirmed multi-touch trackpads.

The white, 13-inch MacBooks will all sport the standard-fare iSight cam, MagSafe outlet adapter, USB 2.0 and FireWire interfaces, Bluetooth, a Gigabit/Fast Ethernet LAN port, digital and analog audio outputs, and a built-in 802.11n wireless networking adapter - just like their MacBook Pro cousins - though the specifications have stepped up a bit.

Anywhere from 120 GB, 150 GB, or 250 GB hard drive solutions are available for selection, but it depends on whether you're aiming for the 2.1 GHz or 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo model. Aim for the higher model and ensure that your unit comes with 2 GB of DDR2 memory, though you can opt to bump that up to 4 GB max.

The larger, silver MacBook Pros will tout 15 to 17-inch widescreen monitors, with faster 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The upper end of the Pro line will come with 4 GB of DDR2 memory immediately and support a maximum of 300 GB for secondary storage. The Pro line also gets powered by NVIDIA's 8600M GT GPU with 512 MB of video memory.

But we're sure that the inclusion of the Multi-Touch gesture support incorporated into the new Pros' trackpad will interest users for sure. Whether you're pinching, drag rotating, or touch swiping, the trackpad will prove almost invaluable to software supporting it.
