Rumor: Super Contra to be arriving on the XBLA

ESRB has rated Super Contra for the Xbox 360 - Image 1


If you go to the ESRB website and search for Super Contra by Konami Digital Entertainment, you'll find that it's already rated for Microsoft's Xbox 360. What's surprising is that there has been no announcement of this release aside from the fact that it's on the ESRB. The consensus is that it will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade, though no official word has been given yet.

This game was originally released in Japanese arcades in 1988, and was soon ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, Commodore Amiga, and PC MS-DOS under the name Super C. Following the same sidescrolling action that made the original Contra a hit, the game added top-down view stages and diagonal terrain. The new addition made the game a bit more difficult than the first iteration.

Veterans of the game will be glad to find that they still have the power-up (still delivered via "flying footballs") to help them finish the game. We're not sure if the cheat code (right, left, down, up, A, B) from the ports will work though, and whether or not it will give 10 lives (US version port) or 30 lives (Japanese version port).

While waiting for word from Microsoft on its release, why don't you read about its predecessor, Contra first?
