Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1

Yeah, I know that the words "rumor" and "definitely" are usually mutually exclusive of each other, but I'm just quoting a "prominent PS3 developer" who, according to VG247, said that firmware 2.70 will go live this week.

The unnamed developer made the assertion during GDC. The dev also said that developers got the update yesterday. The update also supposedly went live for a brief time, and our tipster NarooN tells us that some lucky PS3 owner managed to download about 80% of the update before Sony pulled it out.

This is also (sort of) corroborated by the new Resistance 2 patch that's going live tomorrow. That particular patch will let a second local player to log in using his own PSN profile and save his progress.

Insomniac devs have stated before that this needed a firmware feature not available during the game's launch, so the fact that they've already managed to implement it further strengthens rumors about the new firmware update. Keep checking back here for more news.

Thanks to NarooN for the tip!

Well, GDC (Game Developers Conference) *is* happening this week, so the logical thing for Sony to do is to just announce the firmware and all it's "big" features then.

You can expect a PS Blog post with a video as well.

You have nothing to lose in the bet, it's actually in your best interests to lose so you would be rewarded in a better way.

No Update yet :-(

Last night I was booted off PSN repeatedly. I can only assume that they're doing work on the network to ensure support for a new bandwidth-heavy feature like... oh, I don't know, voice chat maybe.

   Re: sickofitall - 2009-03-25
 » nope,

I doubt voice chat across games is ready yet. But I hope I'm wrong.

I wasn't booted off at all. Check your crappy iNet connection.

 » actually!

me and several friends were booted off last night.
and it started to glitch out on me too.. like one of my friends had my comment.

Literally hundreds of people came on the boards last night, talking about how they got booted. I got booted too, the network was officially down for a while last night.

falsehoods coming from isohaven, big surprise.

Don't know what to tell ya. No issues last night. Not on the store or playing games. Had a big party last night. Even bought some packs for Buzz.

 » i got booted last playing RE5

i yelled at my siblings for turning off the power to the Modern last night while they were in the middle watching streaming movies...lol.................It's only been the 2nd time I've been kick off of the dedicated PSN but only during maintience and update purposes

   Re: dragonracer900 - 2009-03-25
 » same for me

I got booted multiple times last night, and I could easily just sign back in, then get rebooted back off. It rarely happens, but I won't get hopes up.

There's a possibility that the second PSN login feature is available in 2.60.

When we were told about the R2 1.40 patch it was mentioned that the second PSN login feature was being worked on because they received the feature in a firmware update. Guess what... 2.60 was released 2 days before the 1.40 patch details were posted.

Guess we'll find out soon but i'm hoping we get 2.70!

   Re: BiigBiscuit - 2009-03-25

Forgot to mention this but the 2.70 rumor was debunked at the PSBlog by James Stevenson. Check out the R2 DLC and Patch 1.50 availability post and read the replies such as 1, 76 and 93.

2.60 already supports the dual-log feature.

   Re: Stealth! - 2009-03-28
 » lol

I knew it was false. It's a rumor after all. I mean with the other stuff the supposed 2.70 was going to have *cough*Cross game chat*cough* it sounded too good to be true.

Hell even Jeff from playstation blog stated it's nothing more but a rumor and we should only believe what's came from there.
