Xbox Live - Image 1

The casualty statistics so far of the banned Xbox Live is at an uncool 600,000. Yep, that's 600,000 miserable souls with modded Xbox 360s, and inaccessible XBL accounts. What's more, word has it that Microsoft's out to target another 400,000 more.

Filipino blog Pinoy Cosplay reports that "a friend who works for a call center that handles an Xbox 360 account" has received instructions from Microsoft to -- get this -- "push for a million banned accounts by the time the holidays are over." That's a LOT of banned accounts, one whole million, if you can't do the astronomical math.

Says the source, "Our office has gone to hell. People have been calling in around the clock and most of them are screaming teenagers who don't understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought."

Now, we have nothing official on this, so we're gonna have to tag this as rumor. But somehow, we wouldn't put it past Microsoft to give out such an order to their staff. If you own a modded console and you've luckily escaped the wrath of the banhammer thus far, keep those fingers of yours crossed, cos as you've read above, they're out to continue the onslaught till next year. Or until they reach their target of one million accounts banninated.

 » Hmmm...

Well, considering the ONLY reason to have a modded 360 is to play pirated games.... I guess this is pretty fair and all. Drastic, but fair.

Re: ShinseiTom - 9 days ago
 » Ok, amendment...

There are some other reasons to have a modded 360, such as to get around their crappy pricing of HDD's, but in general, I would assume modding a 360 means pirating.

 » 100% true

Its 100% true , saw proof on a web site a IRC chat with a XBOX live security Director .

M$ aim to ban 1.000.000xbx wich mean a direct conversion of about 900.000 new xbox360 salles ,

this comme right after their new important XBOX live Update and holidays , the worse is that many players reported that the ban hit them whille they dident modify their , so the M$ ban script or query is unknow right now , may be something like

If (year income

It's a great way for M$ to make more money. Usually people, who have their consoles modded and banned, spend money to buy new ones. Also those people are stupid for probably not checking if their game passes for stealth. ABGX360 is you friend.

   Re: Goglu666 - 9 days ago
 » time to switch

Yeah, ABGX is not 100% full proof. Got one of my console banned. Time to switch to PS3, I'm completing exchange on classified adds and I should have both my xbox out of my home by tomorrow night and get PS3 instead. I'm gonna spend time on LBP, MGS4, Uncharted 2 and GTA IV of course (too bad TBOGT isn't on ps3)

 » Legit and unlegit

Looks like microsoft is trying to get "The most popular console of the holidays" title! But I don't approve their doing. That is cheap as it does affect not only the modders, but many legit player, or people that have bought used console without knowing they are modded, or not using copied games.

   Re: avatar76 - 9 days ago
 » Ah no...

What it means is they're actually going to make some money as the console sales make practically no money at all. As we've heard 100s of times over the console industry runs on the "razor" model. IE you buy the razor handle cheap and pay a fortune for the razors, console sales do not + dollars for MS but pirating games is expensive for them. To all the people that say they're copying the game because they're worried about the disc damaged, copy the thing to the HDD. It spins up once when you start the game to verify you have it and that is it, it goes back to a very slow spin after that.

Do you really think MS, or any business cares about Used console sales??

And who cares about modded consoles getting banned from xbox live??

What other purpose would someone mod their system then to play pirated/backed up games??

Play offline and you wont even be effected!

   Re: hypercoyote360 - 9 days ago
 » Legal Purpose

I like to keep my games sealed for collectability, so I like to have modded consoles to play a backup of a game I own so I can keep my copy sealed. I do not pirate games. I also prefer to play games off a HD while still owning a physical copy of the game.

   Re: avatar76 - 9 days ago
 » Well hyper coyote

You'd be like one in a million so you're just going to be collateral damage in this. Are you aware that a lot of places have scratch insurance for that very reason? As long as you never ever connect to live you're not going to have a problem here, but to me that'd be like having half an xbox.

I guess it is a good thing that I only have a silver account and never keep my xbox connected.

"most of them are screaming teenagers who don't understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought."

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Dumb@$$es think its their right to steal games.

 » haha

Reminds me of reading comments on piratebay, those comments disgust me. All these stupid little HS dropouts who can't put even a sentence together think it's their right to take things and break the law. Need to get their fat @sses out of their moms' basements and get a job at miccy D's or something, maybe then they'd be able to afford the games

 » **** You

I'm getting a PS3 now.

Re: Master Chef - 9 days ago
 » Good

Good riddance you clown

   Re: avatar76 - 9 days ago
 » Agreed

The xbox live community will not miss you DarkXCloud...
The only thing worse than pirating games are people that cheat in online ranked matches. I'm guessing someone like you has no scruples about doing either of those things. Enjoy him PS3 community he's all yours...

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 8 days ago
 » ....

well, firstly Avatar76, pirating does NOt mean cheating.
Secondly, cheating is not possible on PS3, so we will gladly welcome DarkXCloud.

 » serves the punks right

1 million banned accounts

Let's just say each of them only bought one new game for the 360 in their lifetime

$60 million that would've went towards companies for their work, but punk ass pirates want to steal.

by Master Chef - 9 days ago
 » um huh

Mabie A., what exactly is "uncool" about this? Are you disappointed they got banned for stealing games? These bans were years overdue, good riddance to these losers

BTW where did you hear they are banning accounts? AFAIK they are banning consoles, not accounts. If you check the xbox forums kids are crying that their console got banned, not their account. Doesn't make sense to ban an account anyway, you can just make another.

 » Idea!

I have a idea for all of these problems with bans... Get a PS3 :D You won't get banned unless your a pedo and doing dodgy things :D

 » THE BANNING LEVEL????!!!!

ITS OVER 900,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by raefsomta - 9 days ago
 » screw M$

yeah they banned alot of people but eh... i say good job pirates stickin it to the man! buy another console and mod it again! wooot wooot! fook M$!

Re: pookiepoo - 7 days ago
 » Well thats smart

 » Legit player

I have not had my system firmware modded but i did make it so the fans are running at 12 volts instead of 6 that way it does not overheat by clipping one wire since they are just normal 12 volt pc fans but WTF

I am banned for no reason i have not hacked it and do not do any of that. I actually legitimately own my copies of games

I am very unhappy with microsofts business choices currently

So i got a ps3 but will still play with my banned box

i think it is a little excessive that they are aiming for 1 million

I also think that maybe they are aiming for the number one sold console of the holidays

Re: pookiepoo - 7 days ago
» what they are doing is probably illegal anyway

in respect of your situation. In England there is a law under the Sales of Goods Act 1979 that stipulates that buyers must be given peaceful possession of their purchases... which basically means that M$ shouldn't interfere with your enjoyment. banning you from xbox live for a mere fan mod is more than likely restrictive of that right or the equivalent right you have in your country.

Personally I would bring them to court and either get them to pay for a new xbox or unban it.
