Rondo of Blood - Image 1It looks like UK-based gaming magazine Play knows something all of us don't. In the mag's page dedicated to the most anticipated games of 2007, publisher Dave Halverson listed Dracula X: Rondo of Blood as his number 3 choice. Wait, what Rondo of Blood? As in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood?

Well, it looks very much like it. Back in mid-December, we shared with you a video interview with the producer of the Castlevania series, Koji Igarashi. In that interview, IGA, as he is popularly known, talked about the possibilities of classics being ported to the PSP. He specifically mentioned that there is now in fact a test Castlevaniadeveloped for the handheld.

If this pushes through, we guess we need to remind you how big Rondo of Blood was during its domination of 16-bit gaming. In this part of the series, sometime around 1788, Dracula was once more resurrected by cultists. The Count then seeks revenge on Ritchter Belmont, a descendant of the family that so often brings him back six-feet below, so to speak.

All in all, the game has seven levels, but there are five or six hidden levels. Also, there are some characters that can be unlocked and will then provide players the best ending of the game. There's really much to talk about Rondo of Blood, but we don't want to be counting chicks even before the eggs hatch, or something like that. We'll just keep you posted if something comes up.

It would make no sense to make a straight PSP port of such a game, so I assume it's going to be a remake.

» enough of these stupid ports!

bah...enough with these stupid ports (FFII, FF3,FF tactis, etc). Haven't these companies heard of emulators? we can already play these old stupid games without having to pay 50$ for a freaking ported version of the same damn thing. Commercial game developers either need to come up with original ideas, or face asset liquidation.

 » Not all are ports

Well, I don't know about you, but I'd pay $50 for a port of Tactics. BTW, if there are additional things thrown in, it's not a straight port. See, I agree that ports for ports sake, is a bad idea, but if it's a well done port of a good game, it should be worth some money.

 » are you retarded?

Dracula X : Rondo of Blood Was THE BEST Castlevania game (better then SOTN) america didnt even get it! and it is so rare to get a copy of it let alone a PC Engine To play it on! so correct me if im wrong a port of this game would be phenominal! i understand that they need to quit with the overused ports like FF1 but this is something quite different

 » I hope

I hope its a remake and not a port, but konami might just do that since there was never officially a release anywhere else outside of Japan.

If it were entirely redone with a semi-3D thing going on like in the Mega Man remakes or higher resolution 2D sprites with a couple new levels, bosses, monsters that would be perfect.

 » games?

Hey so when will some new good games come out for the PSP. Seriously.

And for the above poster - FF3 was only released in japan back in the day. And graphically it was completely redone, not just a port. get over it.

» You nuts have gotta be kidding me..

Damn, you guys are nuts. Konami talks about bringing one of their best games over here, which NEVER GOT a US or European release-- one that was easily ebaying for 0 a few years ago, too-- and all you can do is ***** about ports?

Me? I'll buy it in a heartbeat if they bring it over, just so long as it isn't the completely awful attempt at a SNES remake they made.

 » Cute.

Somehow it broke the amount. That's 400 USD it was ebaying for a few years ago.

» Why we aren't going nuts:

I got mine a while back...and it wasn't $400, it was $150.

And thanks to PCEP, I am already playing it on my PSP...so why go creazy over this?

A port of one of the inferior Castlevania games? Wow, great idea there Konami.

 » Inferior??

How was Rondo of blood inferior? It was a great game and without it SOTN wouldnt even exist.

 » To all Nay-Sayers

This will be great as long as it isn't a direct port of Rondo with the old graphics. If they keep the storyline and gameplay intact and redo the graphics and maybe add some new features this will be well worth 50$.

For those of you n00bs who are saying this game is inferior, have you played it?! It was GREAT! Can't wait for it's release (if it's released).

 » It's stupid.

This game is great, I agree. The soundtrack is even greater, I agree again. But this is a REALLY OLD game and shouldn't play very well, today. RoB is awesome, but since SotN, all oldschool Castlevanias sux. And, I really like all of them, really, but the playability is, how can I say this in english... dated?

And yes, I have this game. And yes, I finished it, long time ago and did it again some months ago, I'm a big fan of the game. But a port to the PSP is just stupid.

The Play magazine headed by Dave is definitely based in the US. =P There is indeed a UK-based Play, however it's an entirely different magazine.

 » Sweet

Another great game coming out on the PSP. I think this will sell really well seeing as some many people wanted a Castlevania game for the PSP. I just hope Konami does a remake like Capcom did with Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins. If it is a remake this could really be good.

So I hope this is true the PSP needs killer games for it.

 » Nice.

Us with Homebrew enabled PSP's can already play this game on them, the only back brop is that the emulator hasn't been updated in a such a looooong time. Music does not loop once it stops and some of the animation movie sequences appear without sound. Other than that the game is very enjoyably playable with the last PCE for PSP emulator...version 0.07 I think was the last one? Although it does require a handful of tinkering to get the sound playing decently. In any case, search the forums right here. It's been some time, but it's all been discussed already.

...But hey, I would love a port of this game, considering it never got to the USA in the first place...those of you complaining about ports hear this, there's enough old school gamers like me with PSP's out there who'd much more preffer to have a port or collection of ports of their old favorites on PSP than newly remastered but badly done 3D rendered remakes. If you don't like the idea, just don't buy the stupid game in the first place. Let alone should I remind you guys that there's a billion different fish in the sea, and just because you don't like a particular one doesn't mean it's gonna stop producing itself....It's called fredom of choice, my friends. Live and learn before you whine like kiddies. There's plenty of NEW SCHOOL games to around too, can't see why you're complaining in the first place.

» finally, after waiting for 14 yrs

It'd be great if they release it with an enhance version and the original version together!!! I love this game it is one of my favorite PC engine collection. For the emu fans, you have missed out big time by playing the game with messed up sound!! That alone (playing with proper music/sound) is worth the purchase.

» About the people saying it's bad.

This is the Tubro Graphix 16 release (I hope) they are talking about. It was much better with better level design and music + extra character. The SNES verison was highly downgraded to fit on a cartridge.

» Yes, a Castlevania game for the PSP

It's about time too. I hope it's worth the wait too, because this is one of Konami best series ever!

 » Being putzes...or maybe NOT..

For as long as this game's now been floating around, rather expensively, on the secondary market and/or as an ISO or individual files over the internet, a pretty large percentage of the folks who were dying to play it have already DONE SO, I'd say, but I can't say the port is totally unjustified, since it's had no official U.S. release, yet, and it's--what?--like a 1994 game. Hopefully, it DOES get some enhancements, rather than just a straight port, and that'd make it a better value. I don't get why everyone's quoting a price of $50, since the highest srp I've ever seen on a domestic NEW release for PSP was $39.99, and, typically, even enhanced ports have been $29.99, or less, or have been discounted w/in 6 months after release. It's kind of a counterpoint to the fact that I KIND of want to defend the porting of this game, but does anyone remember reading, in magazine articles, pre-PSP-launch, that Sony was discouraging ports for the PSP, preferring "NEW" games? What ever happened to THAT? Medievil was one of the launch titles in the U.S., was it not? And it seems like, ever since then, we've gotten a steady flow of ports, slightly enhanced versions of older games, and compilations of games from developers' catalogs for older systems.

 » Already on Emulators....

I have this game on the PC-Engine emulator, though the sound is a bit scratchy. But I would definitly buy it, as it is the CastleVania that all other CastleVania's should strive to be.
