Manhunt 2 - Image 1

While we keep on hearing from the angry, outraged side trying to get Manhunt 2 (Wii and PSP) banned everywhere, we really haven't heard from the folks behind the video game that lets you choke out people with a plastic bag, namely Rockstar.

Here to break the silence, then, is a letter from Rockstar itself, sending out a heartfelt thanks to those who have faithfully supported the game even when it's clearly under so much fire. Here is the letter, verbatim:

We wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to contact us about Manhunt 2, which we had been planning to release on PlayStation 2, PSP, and Nintendo Wii. As you know, Manhunt 2 was effectively banned around much of the world, after it was refused certification in the United Kingdom, prohibited in Ireland, and denied an M rating in the United States.

We are very proud of Manhunt 2 and believe it builds on what the team accomplished with the first title in the series. The game was developed as a horror experience, and to be an M rated title, aligning it with similar horror content created in other forms of media.

Unlike many other people, we do not think video games should be singled out for special treatment from the authorities. We hope to have more information for you soon, but in the meantime, we wanted you to know how much we value all of your messages of support.

Truly a graceful gesture by Rockstar, and certainly heartening for all to see that they haven't buckled under with all this flak. Let's hope, though, that everyone involved in this hub-bub about Manhunt 2 unscathed and unburned.

Very decent of them tbh, it's nice when companies acknowledge fans like that.

So now I guess I'll go watch Driller killer, Chainsaw massacre, Hostel, American Psycho and so on in a dark room by myself.

Psychos are psychos because of how they are brought up or they are unhinged from the beginning. I somewhat agree that they can be influenced by violent media but they don't know right from wrong to begin with.

I've been watching horror films and violent films since when I was little and yeah I was scared of most of them (especially Chucky and the clown from 'It') but in no way would I want to do that stuff.

 » Why not movies

As Flashlegz pointed out some horror movies I wonder why the movies never get banned. You know If House of Wax, Hanibal, and Silence of the Lamb are ok why not violent games. I was really looking forward to this game because Rockstar is a great company that make awesome games.

yea they shoulda banned hanibal:rising, not because it was to sadistic but because it blew. i wish there was an association that banned crap movies.

I think because in games the moral choice is up to you and you are responsible for what the character does, however I don't believe that it would make normal people commit crimes/murder.

You gotta be f*cked up beforehand, also I just heard the wrestler Chris Benoit killed his family, I didn't believe it at first but then I checked it out and it was true.

I think they should upload it to torrent for both PSP, PS2 and wii
Then create a paypal account where people will donate. There suck this ESRB or whatever it is!
Rockstar forever

» what about a PC and Xbox release?

If Manhunt 2 does not get released for sony or nintendo systems then what about a version for the PC and Xbox?

the first manhunt came out for Pc so maybe we can get lucky and still play it on our computers.

I hope a PC copy gets released plus the graphics would also look alot better, that is if you have a good graphics card.

Console systems that do not allow AO rated games is outrageous. They have no right to tell us what we can do with their consoles. ***** them all, I'm going to go play more hacked iso's. I DO WHAT I WANT!

...on topic. I don't know why Sony and Nintendo decide not to publish AO games, how is it going to ruin their reputation at all? Oh right, the world is full of retards I forgot. That's probably why they had to. -_-;

Nintendo + Sony: Okay, we don't care if it's an AO game. *Publishes*

» actually game does make "some people" go do stupid stuff.

Just like jack ass. Alot of teenager has been doing that stupid stuff. This is a big world, theres always a few that will do crazy stuff. Specially the ones that are already crazy, they have the highest chance to copy what they can do in a game. But then again banning the game is a lil overdo. We do have our rights to choose for ourself.

» An uncensored pc version would sell well

I personally think that an uncensored pc version would be the way to go. With the pc there is no sony or nintendo to not allow the game to come out. Pc gamers have been buying very mature titles even before the rating system existed so I personally think it would sell really good. Plus the game has gotten even more attention due to the big bans and everything so rockstar has had all this free advertising. The advertising basically writes itself "Play the game that was too violent for sony or nintendo exclusively on your Personal Computer".

» ESRB = Egotistical Stupid Rating Bastards

The ESRB recently were catching a lot of heat from politics becuase of the events that have happened in the past year or so. The kid shooting up the school, the guy who blew himself up in the middle of the street, the kid who hacked his sister to death with a mallet, and Chris Beniot and so on... People (like you and me) were thinking, "Oh, yeah... that's pretty F'ed up." and parents were like, "Oh, well. Crap happens" then that stupid Jack Thompson goes and says its because of video games and now everything bad that happens in the world is blamed on that. People were vastly killing people way before GTA or Manhunt hit a console system.

Now that Manhunt 2 is getting banned, the ESRB is being praised by politics. Did you hear about the car racing game commercial that got banned? Or how about the Dark Sector trailers? The ESRB's acting like a damn lapdog. Politics tell them to speak and the ESRB barks and gets a treat.

To say that Rockstar promotes violence is like saying Muhummad Ali promotes beating people to a pulp.

You might as well say, "Damn you, QJ for providing good information."
