Yes, you read that right: a robot was assigned as Master of Ceremonies in a civil wedding in Daejeon, South Korea. Seok Gyeong-Jae, one of the robot's designers, was the groom in what is touted as the first wedding to have a robot minister.

Other robots also performed duties in the wedding ceremony, such as ushering and performing musical numbers. The robot named "Tiro" will be upgraded after it fulfills its marital duties, said an official from Hanool Robotics, the makers of the wedding bot.

Tiro was also given a soothing female voice to give the robot a small bit of humanity while carrying out the wedding ceremony. While having a robot as a master of ceremonies may seem legally troubling, there won't be any problems since the marriage was registered beforehand.

Robots are now starting to penetrate South Koreans' everyday life: a robot named OFRO was appointed as a school security guard, and will be deployed into service soon; and last year government officials have introduced a sentry robot wielding firearms, meant to support troops situated at the North Korean border.
